Movie Review: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 delivers up a solid 2 hours and 16 minutes of entertainment. If you’re a fan of the film, this is a must see. Here’s our spoiler free review.

Without spoiling anything, the center premise of this movie revolves around Starlord finding out who his dad is and meeting him. Around that central plot is subplot with Yondu and the Ravagers, a side mission for the Sovereign (involving the octopus creature in the movie trailer), and then smaller character plots with each of the Guardians. There’s tons of attention given to the characters which leads to lots of great moments, be they laughs or more serious scenes of reflection and discovery. If you love baby Groot, then you’ll be glad to know that there’s lots of him. In fact each of the members of the cast gets an equal amount of attention. It makes for a very entertaining story. Movie Review: ‘Doctor Strange’

November 6, 2016 at 7:57 am | Posted in Marvel, Movies, Reviews | Leave a comment

In the latest line of Marvel comic book hero movies comes Doctor Strange. There was a lot of trepidation on this one as it starred a superhero not everyone was very familiar and the first few teasers and trailers didn’t do the best job at selling it. Would it be fun and entertaining like the rest? Added to the difficulties was the whole element of magic that is absolutely necessary to tell this story. Yet Marvel did not disappoint. Not only does Doctor Strange deliver a fun, entertaining movie, but is also feels like the other Marvel comic book hero movies, thus cementing itself into the universe that it will be melding with. Deadpool has arrived and it did not disappoint. Quite simply, this is a violent, crude, hilarious movie about an R-rated superhero mercenary with a mouth. He’s out for revenge, love and laughs. And on top of it all, Ryan Reynolds was a perfect match for the character.

First off, it was easy to tell this movie was going to be good from the get go. The opening credits kick start the humor with lines like “Produced by Asshats” and “Directed by an overpaid tool” while showing a freeze shot of the tumbling car and carnage within complete with Deadpool giving a guy a wedgie. The humor carries through the entire movie with one liners, jokes, sight gags and funny moments. Even the credits have humor with a little cartoon Deadpool throwing in more laughs while riding on a unicorn, and yes, there’s an end credit scene so stay until the end and be rewarded with Deadpool in his bathrobe and tease about sequels. Movie Review: ‘Ant-Man’

Marvel has been on a role ever since Iron Man came out in 2008. After seeing Guardians of the Galaxy, a film about a bunch of characters I’ve never heard of, I thought maybe they could do no wrong. But Ant-Man? How could that be any good? What kind of superhero has ant powers? Well, go figure, they still can do no wrong. Ant-Man is good.

The thing that made Iron Man so good was Robert Downey Jr.’s performance as Tony Stark. He made that movie. Audiences fell in love with his character. The same can be said for Paul Rudd. What Downey did with Iron Man, Rudd does with Ant-Man. He’s funny, he can be serious, he lives the character. When watching the film, I believed he was Ant-Man. I never questioned it. Throw it great performances from Michael Pena, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas and even the bad guy, Corey Stoll, who just oozes slime ball. He’s the kind of villain you just love to hate. They all come together to make a great movie that, in my case, beat expectations. Continue Reading Movie Review: ‘Ant-Man’…
