Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Awards Chatter: William Shatner episode features an excellent interview with Captain Kirk himself. It’s also a very easy going conversation that reveals a lot about who William Shatner really is and what he’s really like. He even talks a little about Star Wars, admitting he’s a fan and that when on social media, he just likes poking fun. I highly recommend this one and it gets my pick of the week.

Brews and Blasters: Episode 53 covers the Star Wars Rebels season two midseason trailer, toy finds, news, crazy fan theories, an episode review for Star Wars Rebels “A Princess on Lothal”, an interesting find that in one of the junior novelizations Luke uses the dark side which is now canon…maybe? And they talk about a guy who wiped out the toy aisles by buying all the figures, literally. That and lots of other fun Star Wars discussion in this episode.

Class Marvel Star Wars Comics (Skywalking Through Neverland): Episode 2 covers issue #7. Sarah, Richard and artist Randy Martinez break down the comics, their likes and dislikes, and some special attention for Crimson Jack. It’s a fun and funny episode and I love what they’re doing. Splitting off the Marvel comic reviews into their own standalone episodes works great and gives them plenty of time and space to cover the comics in all their glory. Ashley Eckstein Live Chat Transcript

February 28, 2013 at 3:45 pm | Posted in Events, Her Universe, Interview, Star Wars, Television, The Clone Wars | Leave a comment

The Clone Wars voice actress Ashley Eckstein did a live chat with Star Wars Books the other day covering a multitude of topics. You can check out the full chat here, or scan below for our edited transcript.

Ashley Eckstein: Hi Everyone! Thank you for joining the chat! I am looking forward to your questions! Ask away!

Ashley, my question is simple – do you ever feel like you are bringing in a wider audience to Star Wars with how you have Her Universe and such a powerful character in The Clone Wars? Adding a breath of fresh air to the fanbase so to say?

AE: I do believe that The Clone Wars has introduced Star Wars to a new generation of fans. I also think having a female Jedi like Ahsoka has brought a lot more girls into the franchise. I think Her Universe has made it a lot easier for female fans to be vocal about the fact that they like Star Wars. Continue Reading Ashley Eckstein Live Chat Transcript…

The Mara Catsuit Dilemma

March 6, 2012 at 8:44 am | Posted in Her Universe, Opinion | 2 Comments

Aurelia: As a female, I can tell you that I am not always happy with how women are portrayed in the media. This includes books, comics, movies and even my first sci-fi love – Star Wars. Apparently, an issue has arisen among some in the Star Wars ‘fandom’ surrounding the visual portrayal of the Expanded Universe character, Mara Jade Skywalker. Mara is almost always seen wearing a form-fitting catsuit that many say is not as distinguished as more Jedi-like attire seen on both Luke and, lately, his sister Leia.  An example of this unrealistic portrayal of Mara, is her picture on the cover of the book Star Wars Legacy of the Force: Sacrifice.  At that time Mara was 57, but she actually looks to be in her early 30’s on the cover. Now, you may be thinking, is that really an issue? Personally, since it is only a book cover, I do not think so. However, if you see the picture of Leia on the cover of Star Wars Legacy of the Force: Exile, Leia is depicted age appropriate whereas Mara isn’t, even though they are around the same age. Now, we can’t change the images on the cover of the books, but we can talk about why Mara is portrayed as young & sexy all the time. Continue Reading The Mara Catsuit Dilemma…

Her Universe Mara Jade Shirt for CVI?

February 20, 2012 at 1:10 pm | Posted in Celebration, Her Universe | Leave a comment

Club Jade has a report on this possibility here.  The image is nice and I’m glad Tim Zahn  likes it, but personally I’ll get a Mara shirt when they ditch the cat suit for Jedi robes.

Discuss this on our forum.
