Star Trek: The Fall: Peaceable Kingdoms is the fifth and final novel in the epic crossover series of books from Pocket Books, written by Dayton Ward, and released in December of 2013.

This book definitely felt like it would fit as one of the Next Generation movies. There is a lot of action, but also some great character moments. Unlike the Next Generation movies, it actually follows existing canon and works as part of a series.

The plotlines with Ishan Anjar and the plot to kill Nanietta Bacco are in full swing, with the entire main crew of Picard, Riker, Akkar, and Doctor Crusher all working behind the scenes to examine the evidence of who the President Pro Tempore really is and what their end goal is. I personally was hoping for a little more epic nature to the book, and it’s climax made me go “oh, that’s it”?

Book Review: ‘The Poisoned Chalice’ by James Swallow

Star Trek: The Fall: The Poisoned Chalice is the fourth book in The Fall crossover series of books written by James Swallow and released in November of 2013.

While the first entry in The Fall, Revelation and Dust, was lackluster, its follow ups have been wonderful. The Crimson Shadow was one of the best Star Trek books I have ever read, and A Ceremony of Losses was my favorite David Mack book that I’ve read, and made me really excited for the future of the series. My only worry was that all the books, with the exception of a few references to the overall plot, seemed to be stand alone. That has changed with The Poisoned Chalice, which follows up all three of its predecessors and brings the events to a climactic head.

Star Trek: The Fall: A Ceremony of Losses is the third book in The Fall crossover series of books, written by David Mack and released in October of 2013.

I have heard many times that David Mack is one of (if not the best) Star Trek authors and that this series, The Fall, was one of the best series. So when you combine the best author with the best series, it should be a good combination….and it certainly was!

I’ve read some of Mack’s other books. I read the Destiny Trilogy, which is the epic crossover trilogy about the Borg, and it was fantastic. It wasn’t what was promised, but it was well done. I also read the first few books in his (and Dayton Ward’s) Vanguard series, which I didn’t care for. So overall, I’ve had a mixed bag with Mack.

Book Review: ‘The Crimson Shadow’ by Una McCormack

The Crimson Shadow is the second book in the five book series The Fall which was the epic crossover event in 2013. It was written by Una McCormack and released in September of 2013.

I went into The Fall excited since I’ve heard my Star Trek Book friends rave about it. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with Revelation and Dust, and therefore was nervous about The Crimson Shadow

My fears were unfounded, however, because this is one of the Best Star Trek books I’ve ever read!

This book breaks significantly with its predecessor in that it doesn’t really focus on a main character from the shows or even on one of the ships. Rather, it focuses on Elim Garak, the minor recurring character from Deep Space Nine who is now the Ambassador from the Cardassian Union to the Federation. While he may not be a main character from the shows, his story here is incredibly compelling and will make even strangers to the books endeared to him.

Book Review: ‘Into the Dark’ by Claudia Gray

Into the Dark is a YA book that is part of The High Republic initiative, written by Claudia Gray and released in February 2021.

I want to start by saying that I think that Claudia Gray is a fantastic writer. Master and Apprentice and Bloodline are two of my favorite canon novels. I personally think she is best when writing her adult novels. I thought that Leia Princess of Alderaan was a fantastic book and Lost Stars was a great read. Claudia definitely has the best track record of any of the newer authors in the canon.

Unfortunately, Into the Dark is probably her weakest novel, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad.
