Book Review: ‘The Rules of Enchantment’ by Wendy Tardieu
October 27, 2020 at 4:00 am | Posted in Books, Fantasy, Reviews, scifi/fantasy | Leave a commentTags: the rules of enchantment, wendy tardieu

So there’s a first time for everything, right? Well The Rules of Enchantment is the first time I’ve read an “erotic fantasy adventure” novel. I’ve read lots of fantasy books, and some of those have gotten pretty steamy, but this of course takes it just a bit further. However, maybe not as far as you might think. If you’re a fan of fantasy stories and you like romance, this might be right up your alley.
The story takes place in a world where people gifted in magic can go to academies to learn more about spells and such. There’s an Order of Shadows, an Order of Light and an Order of Sight. Each school has a different focus on the magical arts. Beyond the magic schools, the world lives in the shadow of an event that happened long ago. A sorcerer named Malantheus and his followers crafted a powerful gauntlet that could rule the dead. They rebelled against the kingdoms of the world as they wanted to cast off the restrictions placed on magic. Malantheus was stopped, the gauntlet locked away, and his followers were doomed as spirits to haunt an enchanted forest. All of that creates the backdrop for the world.

This week’s pick is “6 Feet” by Red Shahan.
I found this one last week while searching for new music. I’ve been on a bit of a county kick lately, and I’ve been mining the soundtrack for the show Yellowstone. Well that led me to Red Shahan.
“6 Feet” is off his new album Culberson County. To date, he’s only released two albums. So far I’ve only listened to the new one, but there’s some good songs on it, and if you like country, it’s worth checking out.

Retro Reviews: ‘Ahsoka’ by E. K. Johnston
October 20, 2020 at 1:00 am | Posted in Books, Disney Lucasfilm Publishing, Regular Feature, Retro Reviews, Reviews, Star Wars, Star Wars Books | Leave a commentTags: ahsoka, e. k. johnston

Ahsoka by E. K. Johnston, is a young adult novel in the canon that was released in October of 2016.
This book has an interesting place in my heart, because I had already started reading Star Wars books in 2016, but this was the first book that I bought on release day and read in a 24 hour period of time.
After reading Queen’s Shadow and Queen’s Peril, I was disappointed with E. K. Johnston’s writing as a whole. When I realized I’d have to reread Ahsoka, I was afraid I wouldn’t like it now as much as I did back in 2016.
I was wrong.

October 19, 2020 at 3:48 pm | Posted in Max Reebo Pick of the Week, Music, Regular Feature | Leave a commentThe band Say Hi still has one of the weirdest names I’ve ever come across for a song. It’s “Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh” (that’s eight Oh’s) off of their album appropriately named Oohs and Aahs.

I came across this song a long time ago on Amazon when I was searching for free songs. For those who don’t know, you can find free songs on Amazon. Just search MP3 Music and change the search settings to Price Lowest to High. While it may sound too good to be true, the catch is sifting through all the crappy music to find something worthwhile.
It’s funny, I’ve always liked this song but I’ve never bothered to search to see if the band had any other good songs. I’ll have to remember to check into that. For now, enjoy the tune. It’s bit odd but also a lot of fun.
