Retro Reviews: ‘Dark Disciple’ by Christie Golden
June 23, 2020 at 10:42 am | Posted in Books, Random House, Reviews, Star Wars, Star Wars Books | Leave a commentTags: christie golden, dark disciple
Dark Disciple by Christie Golden is the first novel in the canon to utilize unproduced scripts from The Clone Wars television series, originally written by Dave Filoni, Matt Michnovetz, and Katie Lucas. It was released in July of 2015.
The first thing I have to say is that Christie Golden did exactly what any novelizer should do. She added information and beats to the story to make it flow better, but kept true to the facts and spirit of the original story. She made something made for kids television translate into a novel for adults. That would be a daunting enough challenge, even if it wasn’t a Star Wars property, and yet Christie Golden met that challenge head on and did a great job. New Release: ‘Shadow Fall’ by Alexander Freed
June 23, 2020 at 5:11 am | Posted in Books, News, Random House, Star Wars, Star Wars Books, Star Wars News | Leave a commentTags: alexander freed, alphabet squadron, shadow fall
Shadow Fall by Alexander Freed is out today in hardcover, digital and audiobook formats.
Alphabet Squadron’s hunt for the deadliest TIE fighters in the galaxy continues in this Star Wars adventure!
News of the New Republic’s victory still reverberates through the galaxy. In its wake, the capital ships of the newly legitimized galactic government journey to the farthest stars, seeking out and crushing the remnants of imperial tyranny. But some old ghosts are harder to banish than others. And none are more dangerous than Shadow Wing.
Yrica Quell’s ragtag Alphabet Squadron still leads the search for Shadow Wing, but they’re no closer to their goal—and the pressure to find their quarry before it’s too late has begun to shake them apart. Determined to finish the fight once and for all, Quell works with New Republic Intelligence’s contentious Caern Adan and the legendary General Hera Syndulla to prepare the riskiest gambit of her starfighting career—a trap for Shadow Wing that could finish the chase once and for all.
But in the darkness, their enemy has evolved. Soran Keize, last of the Imperial aces, has stepped into the power vacuum at the head of Shadow Wing, reinvigorating the faltering unit in their hour of need. Once adrift in the aftershocks of the war, Keize has found meaning again, leading the lost soldiers of his unit through to safety. The only thing standing in his way? The most mismatched squadron in the New Republic Navy, led by his former mentee: the traitor Yrica Quell.

Max Reebo’s Pick of the Week: “Bliss”
June 16, 2020 at 7:26 pm | Posted in Max Reebo Pick of the Week, Music, Regular Feature | Leave a commentMax Reebo’s pick this week is “Bliss” by Red Sun Rising.
Red Sun Rising is a band I’ve recently come across, even though they’ve been around since 2006. They were formed by high school classmates Mike Protech (vocals, guitar) and Ryan Williams (lead guitar) in Akron, Ohio. They signed their first record deal in 2014 and released Polyester Zeal which hit number 11 on the Billboard Hard Rock album chart. Two singles from that album each reached number 1 on the Mainstream Rock chart. They put out one other album in 2018, Thread, then went on indefinite hiatus in February this year.
Interestingly enough, the band changed their name to The Violent and released a new song last month called “Fly On the Wall.” In addition to their two studio albums, they have two independent albums which were released in 2010 and 2011, as well as three EP’s.
“Bliss” was off Polyester Zeal which featured Mike on vocals and guitar, Ryan Williams on lead guitar, Tyler Valendza on rhythm guitar, Ricky Miller on bass, and Pat Gerasia on drums. If you like that one, I also recommend “Worlds Away”, “Amnesia”, “Emotionless”, and “The Otherside.”
