Retro Reviews: ‘A New Dawn’ by John Jackson Miller

Greetings, my name is Jonathan Koan. The team here at Roqoo Depot has graciously allowed me to write some book reviews to put on the website. I am extremely thankful to Skuldren and the whole team for allowing me the opportunity.
Since we are now almost 6 years into the publishing process of the canon, I thought it would be prudent to go back and read through all of the adult and YA books released thus far. I’ll be analyzing how the book works on its own as literature, how the characters work, how it ties into the greater Star Wars universe and many other things. At the end of my reviews, I’ll be giving my personal rating on the book.
To start with, I am going to review A New Dawn by John Jackson Miller, which was released in September of 2014. This book serves as a tie-in prequel to Star Wars Rebels and also serves as the first novel in the Lucasfilm canon. Continue Reading Retro Reviews: ‘A New Dawn’ by John Jackson Miller…

Max Reebo’s Pick of the Week: “Shoot From the Hip”
April 28, 2020 at 5:39 pm | Posted in Max Reebo Pick of the Week, Music, Regular Feature | Leave a commentMax Reebo’s pick this week is “Shoot From the Hip” by Brothers Osborne.
Brothers Osborne is a country band I’ve recently come across while searching for new bands. They’ve been around since 2013, but the two brothers in the band have been playing music since they were teenagers. The band composed of T.J. Osborne (lead vocals) and John Osborne (lead guitar, background vocals). Here’s some fun trivia. T.J. is short for Thomas John, and John’s middle name is Thomas. They’re dad, Thomas John Osborne, was not the most creative when it came to naming.
They released their first single in 2013, and their first EP the next year. Their first album wouldn’t hit outlets until 2016, and to this day, they only have two albums and a live album. They’ve won some awards, hit some top 40 charts, and had some pretty good success so far.
“Shoot From the Hip” isn’t actually on any of their albums. It’s from their 2014 EP self-titled Brothers Osborne. I’ve found quite a few songs I like by them, so they’re worth checking out.

Max Reebo’s Pick of the Week: “Leap of Faith”
April 21, 2020 at 7:48 am | Posted in Max Reebo Pick of the Week, Music, Regular Feature | Leave a commentMax Reebo’s pick this week is “Leap of Faith” by Ryan Kinder.
In 2018 I saw John Fogerty and ZZ Top in concert for their Blues & Bayous tour. The opening act was Ryan Kinder, a musician I had never heard of. It was just him on stage with a guitar and two backing vocalists and they were good. Really good. Surprisingly, he hasn’t put out a full album yet, just a handful of singles and an EP.
“Leap of Faith” can be found on his EP The Road or you can just buy it as a single.

Book & Comic News
- StarWars.com has a cover reveal for Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Stories of Light and Dark, an upcoming anthology that will be out August 25th. The book will include 11 stories by authors: Lou Anders, Preeti Chhibber, Zoraida Córdova, Jason Fry, Rebecca Roanhorse, Greg Van Eekhout, Tom Angleberger, E. Anne Convery, Sarah Beth Durst, Yoon Ha Lee, and Anne Ursu. However, only one of the stories will be completely original, the others will be retellings of existing episodes and arcs from the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television show. But there will be some artwork in the book by Ksenia Zelentsova, and hopefully the retellings will prove to be worth while enough to buy the book.
- This falls under book and comic news, but Creators 4 Comics is auctioning off stuff and it includes Star Wars writers. Jedi News has a roundup here, and here what is being sold off and by who. Auctions end on 4/20. You can read the details on how it works here.
