Max Reebo’s pick this week is “Wake Up” by Mad Season.

“Wake Up” is an excellent example of Layne Staley’s musical talents. The vocals are a perfect accompaniment to the laid back notes of the song. And when the song transitions, the vocals match the more frenzied tone of the instruments. It’s a great song that dances between soothing and haunting.

Mad Season only put out one album, Above. The band was formed by Layne Staley from Alice in Chains (vocals/rhythm guitar), Mike McCready from Pearl Jam (lead guitar), John Baker Saunders (bass) and Barrett Martin from Screaming Trees (drums).
