Movie Review: ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’

If you like watching giant monsters fighting each other and wrecking cities, then Godzilla: King of the Monsters delivers. Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah all get some serious action in this movie as they fight each other for dominance of the world while all the tiny humans run for their lives or get smashed to pieces. But there are humans in this movie, and they do get a lot of screen time. Thankfully it’s a great cast of memorable B-list actors who keep the entire film entertaining and interesting. Don’t expect a super intelligent, deep movie, however, if you’re here for fun, you’re in luck.

One thing I liked about Godzilla: King of the Monsters is that it builds off of both Gareth Edwards Godzilla movie and Kong: Skull Island. There’s no erasure of the previous films and they’re all integrated into one narrative universe. This film even builds on the story to setup the next film in the franchise, King Kong vs. Godzilla. While you only get a glimpse of Kong in this movie, there is plenty of screen time for the other monsters, even some of the monsters other than the big four who get top billing. They integrate the whole Monarch group whose monitoring and studying the monsters with the idea of a hollow earth theory, and the idea that these giant monsters somehow help bring balance to the planet despite all the destruction they cause. By using those other films to help develop the story, it adds some serious momentum for the world their building. And as a fan of all three films, I’m really enjoying what they’re doing. Max Reebo’s Pick of the Week: “Just Like A Woman”

June 3, 2019 at 8:25 am | Posted in Max Reebo Pick of the Week, Music, Regular Feature | Leave a comment

Max Reebo’s pick this week is “Just Like A Woman” by Little Caesar.

Sometimes you come across a song that’s good, and sometimes you come across one that’s epic. Little Caesar‘s “Just Like A Woman” floored me when I first heard it. It’s a soft rock song, but it has that magical sound to it that sets it apart from the hordes of crappy soft rock songs. The beat and lyrics are perfect.

Little Caesar is a band that doesn’t get radio play and just about no one has ever heard of them. Yet they’ve been around since 1989 and their first album hit 139 on The Billboard 200. They band is still going with eight albums in their discography (the last one being Eight which was released in 2018).

I’ve sampled some of their albums, and they’ve got some decent songs here and there, though overall it’s a bit of a dated 80’s rock sound. Their album Redemption was released in 2009. With just nine songs, and a formula that hasn’t really changed much, it would be easy to miss the gem that is song #9; “Just Like A Woman.”

If you like the song as much as I did, make sure to head on over to Amazon and buy it. It’s only $0.89. That’s a heck of a deal for a great song.
