Max Reebo’s pick this week is “Born” by Hugo.

Hugo Chakrabongse Levy, better known simply as Hugo, is a half-Thai, half-British, singer-songwriter with some royal heritage tracing back to King Rama V of Siam. I came across his music when I heard his version of Jay-Z’s “99 Problems.” Originally he started out as a teenager in the band Siplor and they released four studio albums, several of which were banned from the radio. He’s only done two albums as Hugo, and there’s good songs on each.

“Born” appears on Old Tyme Religion (2011). Other great songs from that album include “99 Problems”, “Hopelessly Stoned”, and “Bread & Butter.”
