Movie Review: ‘Shazam’

I’m glad I caught it while it was still in the theater because this movie was fun. A lot of fun. The story was great, the characters were great, the villain was portrayed excellently by Mark Strong and they even did a fantastic job with the monster designs. It was a solid movie all around and it had me wondering, “when was the last time I saw a super hero movie this good?”
Of course, there are no shortage of super hero movies these days. With Marvel and DC both cranking out comic book films, and other non-affiliated films joining in, there is hardly a season of the year where there isn’t one on the screen. Shazam‘s direct competition was Captain Marvel. While Marvel won that one in terms of box office money, I’d easily say Shazam! was a better movie. The writing and flow of the story was just plain better. I also enjoyed it a lot more than Aquaman or Ant-Man and the Wasp.
