Movie Review: ‘Avengers: Endgame’

April 27, 2019 at 10:50 am | Posted in Movies, Reviews | 1 Comment

Eleven years in the making, over the course of 22 films, Avengers: Endgame brings the satisfying conclusion to an epic event. There’s laughs, there’s emotional moments that might make you teary eyed, and there’s the end and beginning of story arcs for some of our favorite characters. With three hours of cinematic content, Endgame delivers.

Keeping this spoiler free, it’s amazing what Marvel was able to accomplish. I mean think about it – 22 movies. That’s almost as much as the entire James Bond franchise (26 films) to build up and create a cinematic climax for the Marvel superheroes. Through that decade of film making, they introduced us to characters, assembled them into the Avengers, and pitted them against threats that put the fate of the world at risk. With Endgame, the universe has been dealt a blow by the most powerful threat yet – Thanos. Going into this movie, the Avengers have already lost. Thanos, the badguy, won. And yet the battle isn’t over, not while superheroes still exist. Continue Reading Movie Review: ‘Avengers: Endgame’…

Movie Review: ‘Shazam’

April 24, 2019 at 6:35 am | Posted in DC Entertainment, Movies, Reviews | Leave a comment

It took me a while, but I finally went to see Shazam!. I’m glad I caught it while it was still in the theater because this movie was fun. A lot of fun. The story was great, the characters were great, the villain was portrayed excellently by Mark Strong and they even did a fantastic job with the monster designs. It was a solid movie all around and it had me wondering, “when was the last time I saw a super hero movie this good?”

Of course, there are no shortage of super hero movies these days. With Marvel and DC both cranking out comic book films, and other non-affiliated films joining in, there is hardly a season of the year where there isn’t one on the screen. Shazam‘s direct competition was Captain Marvel. While Marvel won that one in terms of box office money, I’d easily say Shazam! was a better movie. The writing and flow of the story was just plain better. I also enjoyed it a lot more than Aquaman or Ant-Man and the Wasp. It’s certainly not going to approach something like Avengers: Endgame, but that’s not expected. Continue Reading Movie Review: ‘Shazam’…
