Video Game Review: ‘Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey’

January 29, 2019 at 4:55 pm | Posted in Reviews, scifi/fantasy, Video Games | Leave a comment

The Assassin’s Creed games are an interesting lot. On one hand, you get these big open world areas that you can explore with each game diving into a different area of history. In Odyssey, it explores the world of ancient Greece in a time where Sparta and Athens are at war with each other. You can captain a boat and cruise the high seas, wander the forests and hunt deer, climb mountains, explore islands you’ve probably never heard of, and walk the streets of towns that likely no longer exist. On the other hand, Assassin’s Creed is a combat game focused on ridiculous assassination skills. While there is no palm dagger in Odyssey, there is a broken spear with which you can dispatch your opponents with gravity defying acrobatics. Or you can just hack and slash your way to victory. Either way, it’s a game that merges violence and beautiful scenery to create a 3D world you can escape into. The story, however, is another matter. Movie Review: ‘Glass’

January 29, 2019 at 3:48 pm | Posted in Movies, Reviews, scifi/fantasy | Leave a comment

Glass is the final movie in M. Night Shyamalan’s superhero trilogy, and fans have been excited since the easter egg ending of Split. This movie brings together the characters from both Unbreakable and Split, creating a new take on the idea of superheroes. In a world so focused on superheroes, it’s surprising and refreshing to see something tackle the subject matter in a new way. This isn’t a humorous sci-fi adventure like Guardians of the Galaxy, a grimdark vigilante tale like a Batman movie, or an over the top capes and super beings royal rumble like an Avengers movie. Instead, this is a fairly grounded story that is first and foremost an exploration of characters. It is the characters, not the super powers and special effects, that drive this movie. And it is because of that that this movie has so much to offer. Continue Reading Movie Review: ‘Glass’…
