Movie Review: ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

Avengers: Infinity War is an event 10 years in the making, thus this will be a completely spoiler free review as this is a thing far too important to ruin.

The good news – Infinity War did not disappoint. Somehow they managed to juggle, shuffle and bounce back and forth between a huge cast of characters and several storylines without missing a step. It didn’t feel messy. It didn’t feel confusing. It didn’t feel choppy. They managed to keep each section of the story engaging, fun and entertaining. All of the characters had a moment to shine. The action and fight scenes were all well done. The CGI looked good. It hit high marks in all categories.

As for the highlights, I’d say the humor and the villain were the two things that impressed me the most. There was tons of humor weaved in throughout the film. Real laugh out loud moments. The whole theater was cracking up, so much so, that I missed some of the dialog in the film as people were still laughing and the movie was carrying on. To me, the humor did not take away from the story, but added to the entertainment.

And then there’s the villain. Thanos. Marvel has been building up to Thanos for a while and while we have seen him before, this was the first time we saw him in action. The writers, Josh Brolin, and the special effects wizards nailed it. Thanos was epic, awesome and scary. I was genuinely surprised by the character arc they gave Thanos as they managed to include a full backstory that explained his motivations. Sure, he wants to wipe out half the universe, but why? And go figure, they answered it, but not in a cheap, off hand excuse, but a fully realized, believable motivation.

So, bottom line, Infinity War was fantastic. If you’re a Marvel fan, if you’ve like a good amount of the previous Marvel films, then this is a must see and be prepared to have some fun. Just keep two things in mind: this is part one of a two part film event, and there is one end credit scene at the very very end. Unlike the previous films, they cut this one down to just one end credit scene. It’s not a particularly plot essential scene, but it is fun and it does tease something.

With great humor, action, and characters, I give Avengers: Infinity War a five out of five metal bikinis.
