Movie Review: ‘Avengers: Infinity War’
April 28, 2018 at 8:16 am | Posted in Movies, Reviews, scifi/fantasy | Leave a commentAvengers: Infinity War is an event 10 years in the making, thus this will be a completely spoiler free review as this is a thing far too important to ruin.
The good news – Infinity War did not disappoint. Somehow they managed to juggle, shuffle and bounce back and forth between a huge cast of characters and several storylines without missing a step. It didn’t feel messy. It didn’t feel confusing. It didn’t feel choppy. They managed to keep each section of the story engaging, fun and entertaining. All of the characters had a moment to shine. The action and fight scenes were all well done. The CGI looked good. It hit high marks in all categories. Continue Reading Movie Review: ‘Avengers: Infinity War’…

New Animated Series: ‘Star Wars Resistance’
April 26, 2018 at 4:46 pm | Posted in News, Star Wars, Star Wars News, Star Wars Resistance, Television | Leave a commentCutting to the chase, here’s the official announcement.
‘STAR WARS RESISTANCE,’ A HIGH-FLYING ANIME-INSPIRED SERIES THAT EXPLORES AN UNCHARTED TIMEFRAME PRIOR TO THE EVENTS OF ‘THE FORCE AWAKENS,’ ORDERED BY DISNEY CHANNELS
Production has begun on “Star Wars Resistance,” an exciting new animated adventure series about Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order. It will premiere this fall on Disney Channel in the U.S. and thereafter, on Disney XD and around the world.
Featuring the high-flying adventure that audiences of all ages have come to expect from Star Wars, “Star Wars Resistance” will feature the beloved droid BB-8 alongside ace pilots, colorful new characters and appearances by fan favorites including Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma, voiced by actors Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie, respectively.
The series was created by renowned Lucasfilm Animation veteran Dave Filoni (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Star Wars Rebels”); executive-produced by Athena Portillo (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Star Wars Rebels”), Justin Ridge (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Star Wars Rebels”) and Brandon Auman (“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”); and art-directed by Amy Beth Christenson (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Star Wars Rebels”).
“The idea for ‘Star Wars Resistance’ came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots” said Filoni. “My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.”
Marc Buhaj, senior vice president, Programming and general manager, Disney XD, said, “Our colleagues at Lucasfilm have created a compelling narrative for an untold moment in the Star Wars galaxy, and we are excited to partner with them again on this new original series. ‘Star Wars Resistance’ will bring viewers across generations an engaging story with heart, humor and both new and familiar characters.”
The voice cast also includes: Christopher Sean (“Days of Our Lives”), Suzie McGrath (“East Enders”), Scott Lawrence (“Legion”), Myrna Velasco (“Elena of Avalor”), Josh Brener (“Silicon Valley”), Donald Faison (“Scrubs”), Bobby Moynihan (“DuckTales”), Jim Rash (“Community”) and Rachel Butera (“Tammy’s Tiny Tea Time”).

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.
Blast Points Podcast: Episode 120 is the usual fun as they talk Solo, Motley Crue, the new Solo TV spots, and the Empire photos. Then they talk The Force Awakens as they travel back in time to recall the hype, the trailers, the leaked concept art, things that were leaked or revealed that weren’t in the movie, and wild rumors. It’s a fun trip down memory lane.
Podcast Network: N/A, Runtime: 54 minutes, Audio Quality: Excellent, Editing: Excellent, Hosts: Jason, and Gabe, Rating: Fun
Coffee With Kenobi: Episode 119 Dan talks with Mark Von Ohlen and Lacey Gilleran about Topps cards, Solo, Denny’s cards, working with actors for autographs, Mark shares a shirtless Adam Driver story, and then they go over comic news, magazine news, and game news. Afterwrds, Dan previews two new podcasts he’ll be on. One is a clip of him, Tom and Cory talking about Solo which is from their new weekly Patreon show, and the other one features Dan and Jim Hill in a podcast called Looking At Lucafilm. The audio quality for Mark and Lacey isn’t the best as Mark has some background noise and Lacey is calling over a phone from the sound of it. Not too bad though.
Podcast Network: Coffee With Kenobi, Runtime: 1 hour 23 minutes, Audio Quality: Good, Editing: Excellent, Host: Dan Z, Rating: Good
Comic Book Noob: The Black Order is hosted by just Regina and Scott, but they do a great job of going over Thanos’ minions, The Black Order. They talk about Corvis Glave, Proxima Midnight, Kull Obsidian/Black Dwarf, Ebony Maw and Super Giant. They go over the powers, personalities and stories for each. Lots of great info. Excellent primer for Infinity War, and, given the timing, I’m making this one my Pick of the Week.
Podcast Network: Assembly of Geeks, Runtime: 27 minutes, Audio Quality: Excellent, Editing: Excellent, Hosts: Scott, and Regina, Rating: Pick of the Week Continue Reading Podcasts in Review…

There’s lots of stories out there, and not every story works for every person. Last Shot by Daniel José Older is an ambitious tale that tries to tackle some big ideas, merge eras, and do some really fun things. While it isn’t perfect, it’s still an enjoyable read and worth checking out. Click here to read our full review which does get into a few light spoilers concerning the main plot of the book.
