Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

501stCast: Episode 105 is hosted by Nicky, Joe and Marcus as they highlight a documentary on the UK Garrison, watch The Last Jedi trailer together and share their initial reactions, cover the new 501st costumes, and then head into troop reports. There’s even a dedicated segment for the Alaskan Garrison. Plus there’s a little bonus audio drama with Joe, Alan Flyng and Derek Lyons called “Enterprising Executor.” If you’d like to get an idea of what the 501st Legion does, this is a great podcast to check out as their troop reports cover all the charity events they participate in and help raise money for. There’s usually some pretty touching stories.

BlastCast: Thoughts on the MNF The Last Jedi Trailer includes highlights and some interesting thoughts on the trailer, porgs, kyber foxes and the Kylo/Leia moment.

Podcast Network: Hyperspace PodBlastRuntime: 24 minutes, Rating: Good

Brews and Blasters: Episode 139 features Joe and Chris as they start off with Bob’s Burgers. Then they talk about getting tickets for The Last Jedi, watching the trailer, and the theater they plan on seeing it at. They also talk about Batista and Blade Runner 2049 (spoiler free, high recommendations from both), Topps cards, they dive more into The Last Jedi trailer with their thoughts on it, but not a shot-by-shot breakdown as they might save that for later. A Plague of Giants by Kevin Hearne is out today in hardcover, digital and audiobook formats.

From the author of The Iron Druid Chronicles, a thrilling novel that kicks off a fantasy series with an entirely new mythology—complete with shape-shifting bards, fire-wielding giants, and children who can speak to astonishing beasts

Tallynd is a soldier who has already survived her toughest battle: losing her husband. But now she finds herself on the front lines of an invasion of giants, intent on wiping out the entire kingdom, including Tallynd’s two sons—all that she has left. The stakes have never been higher. If Tallynd fails, her boys may never become men.

Dervan is an historian who longs for a simple, quiet life. But he’s drawn into intrigue when he’s hired to record the tales of a mysterious bard who may be a spy or even an assassin for a rival kingdom. As the bard shares his fantastical stories, Dervan makes a shocking discovery: He may have a connection to the tales, one that will bring his own secrets to light.

Abhi’s family have always been hunters, but Abhi wants to choose a different life for himself. Embarking on a journey of self-discovery, Abhi soon learns that his destiny is far greater than he imagined: a powerful new magic thrust upon him may hold the key to defeating the giants once and for all—if it doesn’t destroy him first.

Set in a magical world of terror and wonder, this novel is a deeply felt epic of courage and war, in which the fates of these characters intertwine—and where ordinary people become heroes, and their lives become legend.

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review. There’s some pre and post-trailer release episodes in here.

Blast Points: Episode 94 dives into The Last Jedi trailer. Gabe and Jason keep it fun as always. From the AT-AT farm and Kylo’s space band-aid, to Phasma’s toothpick and the Rey vs Snoke showdown. They speculate on whether the Kylo/Rey scene is a fake out, the lack of Hux, and more. If you’re hunting down trailer discussions, this one is definitely worth putting on the playlist.

Podcast Network: N/A, Runtime: 55 minutes, Rating: Great

Bombad Radio: Episode 288 kicks off with a discussion of the book Star Wars Made Easy. They talk a little about Inhumans, and then they get into their main discussion which is their recommended movie and television show picks for streaming services Amazon Prime and Netflix. If you have either service, and you’re looking for some recommendations on what to watch, this episode is worth a listen. Afterwards the fire up the porgs and top things off with a porg song. While the porg count has been retired, there are a lot of porgs in this episode.

Podcast Network: Bombad RadioRuntime: 1 hour 30 minutes, Rating: Okay

Brews and Blasters: Episode 137 opens with Chinese food, magic potions and beefcake tomatoes. They have a non-spoiler discussion of It, talk about Harrison Ford punching Ryan Gosling in the face, the Toys R Us bankruptcy, they discuss the upcoming trailer drop for The Last Jedi (this was recorded pre-trailer release), and there’s even some audio from their first episode. They also discuss Star Wars Rebels Season 4, speculate on the fates of the characters, there’s some listener emails, and need’em got’em.

He’s the Jedi who brought his father back to the light, helped kill the Emperor, and saved the galaxy. Now he’s the last Jedi, and he’s scared. But why? Continue Reading Why is Luke Scared?…
