On Station At Celebration: Arrival

It’s the day before the kick off for Star Wars Celebration Orlando 2017 and I’m here on the scene. Or at least I was around about town. Last time I was in Orlando for Celebration, I didn’t have much time to explore, so this time around, I set out on foot to see what there was to see.

This year I ended up at the Days Inn for my stay in Orlando. I wasn’t my first pick, but it’s not too bad, and it’s within walking distance to the convention center (as well as McDonalds and Walgreens) which means no rental car needed.

Before heading out the door, I put on one of my favorite custom tees, the Waru shirt. This one dives deep into the old EU, so it’s an inside joke for a select group of Star Wars fans. It always makes my day when someone recognizes it.

Without walking too far, the signs for the convention center were already advertising impending Star Wars.

But beyond the convention center, there’s more to see, like the big ferris wheel…

…the Wonder House, which is always neat to look at but I’ve never gone in it yet.

There’s the Pirate’s Cove put put course.

And my ultimate destination, the Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum. This was a bit of a walk, but it was good exercise. Now I knew this museum wasn’t going to be great. However, ever since going to San Francisco and not getting to go the the Ripley’s museum there, I’ve always wanted to go in one. So this was my chance.

Now there’s some silly stuff, and there’s a lot of stuff for kids, but there’s also some neat items like the Vampire Killing Kit.

Cannibal skulls.

And even dinosaur skulls.

In fact there’s a lot of skeletons in the museum. One of my favorites was the piranha.

There’s also a shrunken head.

A statue of one of the world’s largest men, which was kind of neat as I remembered reading the Guinness Book of World Records as a kid and seeing the entry on Wadlo. If the statue they have is accurate, he was HUGE!

There’s also a lot of creepy statues.

And even an AT-AT.

After walking all the way back to my hotel room, it was time to call it a day and order for some pizza. The choice was easy: Giordano’s.

Now I’ve had a couple different kinds of Chicago style pizza in Chicago. So I had something to compare this to. It was pretty good. Not as good as Lou Malnati’s, but still pretty good and very filling. Great way to end the day.
