Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Aggressive Negotiations: Issue 017 focuses on Star Wars side characters. They cover Rex, Hondo, Dex, the Crimson Corsair, Maz Kanata, Nien Nunb, Satine, Cad Bane, Asajj Ventress, Hux and Poe. Kind of an interesting episode. They don’t dig too deeply into any one thing, rather they cover the spectrum touching on different elements of the entire saga.

Assembly of Geeks: Evil Captain America and the Raging Fandoms covers news, Tom Hiddleston playing Bond, the video game No Man’s Sky, the high expectations, and the extreme reactions of fans which leads into a discussion of fan reactions in general. They also talk about how Mel Gibson almost played Odin and they have Russ Burlingame on to talk about Captain America being a Hydra agent. Great episode. If you’re not listening to Assembly of Geeks, be sure to give it a try. It’s a great podcast for all your geek fandoms with top notch audio quality, hosts and discussions.

Awards Chatter: Jeff Daniels interview covers the actor’s career as he talks about how he got into acting, his first couple rolls, doing both theater and movies, his comeback with Dumb and Dumber, doing Newsroom, and the play he’s currently doing, Blackbird. He talks about his commitment to the roles and his outlook on his career. It’s a great interview. Definitely give it a listen.

Blast Points: Episode 23 features a great interview with Star Wars comic creators Jan Duursema and John Ostrander. They talk about how they got into the comic industry, their long history together, doing Star Wars, cool moments and their new project that they’re doing Hexer Dusk. Great episode for Star Wars comic fans.

Blast Points: Episode 24 starts with Rogue One news – the rumors, the overreactions, and where the reality is – they talk about the new Rogue One LEGO’s that were leaked, costumes being at Celebration Europe, first two episodes of Star Wars Rebels being premiered there, the book spine tease, Han Solo movie news, the Episode VIII giant rubber chicken and Rian Johnson’s cave pics. Then they go through all 25 of the Star Wars Fan Film finalists covering their thoughts on each of them. Great episode with lots of humor as always and tons of fantastic discussion. I have to admit, right now, this is probably the most fun podcast I’m listening to with Brews and Blasters coming in a very close second.

BNN (Bombad Radio): Episode 6.6.16 covers GTA Online coming to an end, the real reason behind Rogue One reshoots, change in Flash directors, Amazon going after paid reviews, new Friday the 13th movie, what Sam Raimi Spider-Man 4 would have been like, Rogue One stuntman, Independence Day double feature, and Namor.

Coffee With Kenobi: Episode #54 kicks off with news including the actor playing Han Solo, Celebration, and the podcasting awards. Their video game segment focuses on the Disney Infinity cancellation, and the sequel for Star Wars: Battlefront. Dan and Corey also talk about the Disney Infinity cancellation, then they head into their interview with Star Wars Rebels voice actor Freddie Prinze Jr. Their conversations with Freddie are always a treat. Freddie brings up some interesting observations about codependency with Jedi and Sith, he talks Ahsoka and samurai, the idea of Force explosions and balance, sets the stage for season 3, and they talk about his cookbook and twitch. With the conversation with Freddie, this episode is definitely my pick of the week. Don’t miss this one.

Comics With Kenobi: Issue #19 covers the Rogue One comic cancellation, they review Obi-Wan & Anakin #5, Star Wars #19, and Darth Vader #20. There’s some division on Obi-Wan & Anakin, unanimous love for the cover of Star Wars #19, and some more hate for the Bee-Tee and Triple-Zero, though Matt did like the mini-comic. Still some nice comic coverage, though Jeff was a little too close to the mic in this episode.

Databank Brawl (ForceCenter): Episode 10 pits everyone’s favorite dinosaur bounty hunter Bossk against Jabba’s court jester, Salacious B. Crumb. It’s lizard man versus lizard-monkey as they brawl on Tatooine. It comes to a gruesome end and even the happabore gets involved. Fun and entertaining episode as always, but this one was extra special.

Dune Cast: Episode #1 starts with an interesting article that covers a lot of the history and background around Dune and Frank Herbert. Then they head into the book covering the characters, it’s ties to Star Wars, Game of Thrones, the interesting aspects of the Fremen, good resources to check out on Dune and more. With so much to cover, I’m curious how they’ll pace themselves, but this first episode gives Dune fans a lot to enjoy.

Fly Casual: Episode 92 has no Corey, but the rest of the gang does a great job of keeping things fun. They talk about Steve Potter representing the podcast at the Star Wars Celebration Europe Podcast Stage, Rogue One headlines, Ciena Ree’s official pic, Netflix news, toy news including new Black Series helmets, the new Star Wars replica prop collection, new Star Wars Topps series and autograph cards, the Sideshow Darth Maul, and the Jabba the Hutt and Ackbar Hotwheels.

My Star Wars Story: Minisode 1 features Star Wars: A New Hope actor Laurie Goode as he talks about his acting career, his role in Star Wars, his interest in music, and the whole Stormtrooper who banged his head thing. It’s a fun conversation giving a bit of insight into the movie and a lot of insight on Laurie.

Platform 9 3/4: Episode 0 gives a little introduction to the new podcast they’re kicking off. It’s hosted Mairin, Maya, and Anna but Maya is absent from their debut episode. Listeners of Children of the Force will recognize Anna as she’s one of the co-hosts there. Platform 9 3/4 is a Harry Potter podcast with potential, but there was some audio issues with Episode 0 as the background music would drown out the hosts at times. There’s a quite part to the music, and then it swells up, so part of the time you can hear the hosts, and part of the time you can’t hear them. Hopefully then get that worked out for future episodes.

Rebel Force Radio: Episode 6.3.2016 features a cool bit of audio that Jimmy got from his kid’s high school concert will includes an awesome medley of The Force Awakens music. Jimmy and Jason talk Rogue One and all the hubbub, they talk with voice actor Matt Lanter about playing Vader in Star Wars Rebels, his upcoming time travel tv show, and his upcoming moving about the USS Indianapolis including his connection to it. Plus some listener emails. Great episode.

Rebels Chat: Episode 44 covers Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season One Episodes 9 through 12 as they talk about Luminara and the tie to Rebels, Royal Commandos, Asajj, epic hairstyles, Kit Fisto and comparisons to Kanan, Grievous, Hondo, Dooku and Jar Jar. With fun observations and comments, it’s a nice relook at TCW.

Skywalking Through Neverland: Episode #121 starts with a review of Alice Through the Looking Glass, a recap of their visit to the DC Universe: The Exhibit, they talk with Tricia and the Peralta family about Star Wars Celebration Orlando, they talk with Mark Daniels about Celebration and his Disney video series, Drew Kaplan reviews the DK Books Star Wars: Character Encyclopedia: New and Expanded and The Force Awakens: Incredible Cross-sections. Lots of Star Wars packed into this episode. Fun one to listen to.

Star Wars Bookworms: Episode #57 catches up and dives into some speculation on Thrawn maybe being in Star Wars Rebels. They do some listener feedback then review Servants of the Empire: Imperial Justice and The Secret Academy. They go into details and spoilers, so fair warning. I haven’t read either book yet, but I didn’t mind getting a nice idea of what the books are like and what happens in them. Good episode.

Steven and Stephen on Steven: Episode 16 begins with their coverage of recent movies they’ve seen like Captain America: Civil War, Green Room, Sing Street, The Nice Guys, Angry Birds and X-Men: Apocalypse. It’s just some quick comments so nothing spoilery. Then they get into their main discussion, Jurassic Park. They talk about seeing the movie for the first time, their thoughts on it, the characters and some comparisons to the book and thoughts on the franchise in general. Plus they talk about how James Cameron almost directed the movie which some interesting insight on what his take was going to be. Afterwards they list their ten favorite movies from last year, not delving too long on any and not spoiling anything. Good way to catch any good movies you might have missed. Overall, great episode.
