Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.
Beyond the Vote: Episode #006 covers a bad week for Trump as he talks abortion, the numbers involved for delegates, and what’s in store for the convention. Riley and Scott take politics and make it interesting. It’s noteworthy when each week one of the podcasts I look forward to most has nothing to do with Star Wars.
Blast Points: Episode 17 continues to raise the bar as Jason interviews Star Wars author J.W. Rinzler. I’ve heard Jason do a handful of interviews, and he always does a top notch job with some excellent questions. In this episode he talks with Rinzler about his first exposure to Star Wars, getting a job at Lucasfilm, making the Making Of books, and tries to get in a question about the Making of The Force Awakens, which unfortunately gets shot down. Good try though. They wrap up with some quick Star Wars favorite questions to finish off a fun interview. Be sure to give this one a listen.
Bombad Radio: Episode 236 features a Rogue One roundtable discussion with Jeremiah, James, Jason, Gabe and author Adam Bray as they give a full breakdown of the trailer with some excellent observations and connections.
Brews and Blasters: Episode 65 features guest Dennis Keithly as they talk about the digital release of The Force Awakens, Papa Shango running VUDU, deciding which TFA physical release to get, some fun Dr. Claw impressions, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega rapping, and comic reviews of Kanan, Darth Vader and Poe Dameron. Then they head into Punisher, Force For Change, Star Wars Rebels, and Admiral Trench as they review some old episodes of TCW. A little toy and food talk wraps up the episode for another well balanced discussion of Star Wars and beyond.
Brews and Blasters: Episode #66 features Joe and guests Dan Zehr and Cory Clubb from Coffee With Kenobi as they talk about the origin story of their podcast, the Rogue One trailer, their thoughts on the Darth Vader comic series, and they reach back to Star Wars: The Clone Wars to review the episode “The Hidden Enemy.” Plus there’s need’em got’em as they go over their recent acquisitions including Dan’s Episode VII crew jacket. Good guests, good discussion and good episode. It’s a double shot of awesomeness.
Coffee With Kenobi: Rogue One Teaser Trailer Initial Reactions goes over seeing the trailer, their thoughts, the Jyn/Katniss comparison, white cape guy being menacing without a mask, Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen, the not Vader guy, and more. Nice discussion with some excellent observations and only 39 minutes. Great episode to check out.
Comics With Kenobi: Issue #16 features reviews of Obi-Wan & Anakin #3, Darth Vader #18, Star Wars #17, Kanan #12 (the last in the series) and Poe Dameron #1, which they give a lot of praise. Lot of comics and great reviews making this one a great episode for Star Wars comic fans.
Comics With Kenobi: Issue #17 is a mini episode reviewing C-3PO #1. They talk about the insight into the life of droids, the cover and interior art, the different droids involved, the dialog, the topics of memories and memory wipes, and the depth of the story.
Databank Brawl (ForceCenter): Episode 6 pits General Crix Madine against General Hux. After the character backgrounds, we get to see a retired Madine go pointer-to-fist with the screaming Hux and his First Order goons on Felucia. As always, they keep it entertaining and fun.
Fangirls Going Rogue: Episode #31 features guest Geek Girl Diva who shares her story about getting into Star Wars Rebels. They talk about Force For Change, their thoughts on the TFA Blu-ray, the Target bonus content, watching TFA with BB-8, their Disney meet-up, and the Star Wars Rebels finale. That leads them into the differences between seeing Rebels on the big screen compared to the small screen, their thoughts on Ahsoka, the triangle, Mortis and the owl, and the press event Q&A. And for their character discussion, they dive into Maz Kanata. Fun episode.
Fictional Frontiers: Episode 361 is an interesting episode as Sohaib talks with both Tiya Sircar and James Arnold Taylor without going into Star Wars. Tiya talks about her latest movie Miss India America, her background, her parents, and their background which is a very nice, eye opening conversation as I haven’t heard anyone dig into those topics as most interviews get mired down in Star Wars. Then James comes on to talk about Ratchet and Clank, voice acting and his side projects. Good episode and not too long.
Fly Casual: Episode 85 reviews Darth Vader #18, Poe Dameron #1, and the Star Wars Rebels season two finale. As always, they bring a smile to my face. Fun comments and observations keep it entertaining. They also dive into Rey’s vision and the audio, Frank Oz showing up at Pinewood, the Episode VIII casino scene, a new female lead, and Rogue One/Rebels tie-ins.
Full of Sith: Episode CLXII features their thoughts on the Rogue One teaser trailer, as well as their thoughts on The Force Awakens Blu-ray bonus features and watching TFA with the Sphero BB-8.
Rebel Force Radio: Episode 4.15.16 starts with some discussion of the actor in the lead to play Han Solo, Daily Ridley’s comments at the MTV movie awards, a full recap of the C-3PO #1 comic (includes spoilers), and they bring back their spoiler segment as they dive into Episode VIII rumors/spoilers on Rey’s parentage and more.
Rebel Grrrl: Episode 29 includes their thoughts on the Rogue One teaser trailer as well as the comic Poe Dameron #1, and the Star Wars Rebels finale “Twilight of the Apprentice.” Unlike most of the podcasts I’ve listened to, they have a different take on Rebels that’s refreshing and includes quite a bit of criticism. They also go over listener emails covering a variety of topics like deleted scenes, Kanjiklub and favorite Star Wars hairstyles.
Skywalking Through Neverland: Episode #116 discusses the Rogue One trailer with their observations and speculation–good stuff. Then they cover some upcoming events, share their thoughts on The Jungle Book, cover Erik Bauersfeld’s passing, and then head into a great interview with Craig Miller. Craig was the Publicist and Director of Fan Relations for Lucasfilm back in the 70’s and 80’s and has a lot of stories to share. He talks about answering fan letters, operating R2-D2, the underoos commercial, George on the 12/9/6/3 films, misinformation, the Star Wars telephone messages, outtakes, promoting Star Wars, the novelty of lining up, fandom and more. Afterwards Rich, Sarah and guest Drew Kaplan talk about the TFA delete scenes. Lot of great stuff in this episode, but the Craig Miller conversation steals the cake and make this episode my pick of the week.
Skywalking Through Neverland: Episode #117 features guests Jeff Roney and Johnamarie Macias as they talk about the different generations of Star Wars fans and labeling. They cover judging, first generation fans, TCW/Rebels fans, seeing Star Wars the first time, phone calls and interacting with Star Wars celebrities, the challenges of being an older fan, bullying on social media, and more. It’s a very intriguing discussion. Afterwards guest Dani Franklin joins Rich and Sarah to talk Star Wars, TFA and fandom. Then they go into their TFA Blu-ray segment to cover each of the featurettes and share their thoughts with guest Drew Kaplan. Another fun packed episode.
Star Wars Action News: Episode 473 covers The Force Awakens Blu-ray offerings, a report of the disappointment at St. Louis Wizard World, and toy news on the Sideshow Luke Snowspeeder Pilot, Premium Format Sandtrooper, the Smuggler’s Bounty Blind Box and more.
Star Wars Report: Episode 218 features Mark and Riley as they talk about the Rogue One teaser trailer, Daisy Ridley’s comments at the MTV movie awards, and TFA release thoughts. Pretty good episode and worth checking out.
Western Reaches: Episode #3 dives into the usual topics as they cover what they’re reading, the games they’re playing, and then they head on into some serious Star Wars discussion as they get into the Rogue One trailer and the Star Wars Rebels season two finale. Good episode with lots of Star Wars discussion.
