Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

501stCast: Episode 89 includes coverage of Kevin Doyle’s walk from Rancho Obi-Wan to SDCC, con and event reports, library cons, troop reports, backpack events, and more. If you want to know what the 501st does and what they’ve been up to, this is the podcast to listen to.

Comics With Kenobi: Episode #8 reviews Shattered Empire #2, Darth Vader #10, Star Wars #10 and Lando #4 and #5. Plus they have an interview with the writer for the Lando series, Charles Soule. Now after the end credits they do a live reading of Lando #5. At first I thought they meant they were going to re-enact the comic and read it outloud, but that isn’t the case. Instead it’s them giving their reactions, kind of like a film commentary track, as they read the comic for the first time. It’s an interesting idea, but it needs some more dialog if it’s going to work as there was a like of dead space as they were reading.

Fly Casual: Episode 61 features lots of comic reviews as they cover Darth Vader, Star Wars, Kanan, Lando and Shattered Empire. They keep it entertaining as always. Afterwards they did a little into books as they talk about Lost Stars. Then they get into rumors. Fair warning, they cover The Force Awakens rumors and character deaths, so listen at your own risk when they get to that part of the episode.

Full of Sith: The Trailer Council is so far the best discussion I’ve heard covering The Force Awakens trailer. Part of this is because Bobby Roberts put together an all star panel: Tricia (FANgirl Blog), Bethany (Star Wars Report), Nancy (Tosche-Station), Dunc (Club Jade), Justin (The ForceCast), Mark (Jedi News) and Dan (Coffee With Kenobi). Together they breakdown both the poster and the trailer for an excellent discussion with great audio quality. This one not only sets the bar, it raises it.

Full of Sith: Episode CXXXVII reviews Star Wars Rebels “The Lost Commanders”, touches on their experience at New York Comic Con, Shattered Empire #3, and Bryan talks a little about his new book. Great show as always.

Full of Sith: The Last Gasp is very different from your typical podcast episode. It’s not a discussion or a conversation, so much as it is an audio form of an extremely well developed article. Basically it’s a full blown audio production of Bobby telling the story of Star Wars, fandom, and the current state of fan schisms and their inevitable fate. I initially was going to skip this episode because I thought it was one of Bobby’s The Force Awakens spoiler episodes, but that’s not the case at all, and I’m glad I listened. Seriously, hats off to Bobby for not only doing something different, but doing it well. Do yourself a favor and give this one a listen. It’s an interesting journey with great production.

Hyperspace Theories: The Force Awakens Trailer Reaction Show dives deep as they postulate theories based on elements from the trailer for a whopping one hour and forty seven minute conversation. Tricia, Kay and BJ cover it all, so if you’re looking an in depth discussion of the trailer, you might want to check this one out.

RebelForce Radio: Episode 10.23.2015 is their trailer reaction reaction episode as they continue the discussion, this time dipping into listener feedback. They cover a variety of subjects. As the random roll of the playlist would have it, this was the first discussion I heard going into the music of the trailer. Definitely worth a listen for those wanting to dig deeper into the trailer.

Rebels Report: Season 2 Episode 3 covers Star Wars Rebels “The Lost Commanders” as they dissect the episode and talk about the Siege of Mandalore, how the clones avoided Order 66, the 501st’s knowledge of Anakin being Vader and more as they ask some intriguing questions. Great episode analysis featuring Andy, Kale, Pete and Saf. Having listened to their past episodes, I really like the four host format they had for this one. It was a good combination.

Star Wars Report: Episode #187 features Mark and Riley as they cover some general topics, Daisy Ridley’s exercise videos and the issue that had on Instagram, plus a conversation with Jimmy Mac who was recently featured in a Chicago Tribune article. They talk about the news piece and his fandom. It’s good stuff. Then they interview Chris, the guy who did the “Mark Hamill Can Handle” song. The audio for the interview isn’t the best, but there’s some good content as they cover how the song was made.
