Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Big Beautiful Podcast: Episode 23 has an interview with Star Wars author Tom Angleberger who wrote some of the Star Wars origami books. He talks about where his ideas come from, how Darth Paper came about, defending the Ewoks, writing Return of the Jedi with a different spin, a victorian flare, and what the other authors are up to. It’s a neat interview and worth checking out as it sheds light on books that don’t get the most attention on major Star Wars outlets.

Bombad Radio: Episode 204 kicks off with a little news, then they head into their interview with voice actors Ellen McLain and John Patrick Lowrie. They talk about their early work, getting into the business, working on games like Portal, Fear, Team Fortress, and even writing a novel. It’s a fun interview and worth checking out.

Coffee With Kenobi: Episode #42 features a lot of interviews. First up is Jim Hill who they talk to about Star Wars Land at Disney World and Disneyland, from what’s known to what’s rumored. It’s an insightful conversation covering what will happen and the challenges involved. After an update from the Bearded Trio, they talk with Star Wars fan Torpedo Ted who was at D23 and shares the experience. Then they talk with Mark Van Ohlen about Star Wars Topps cards. While I don’t collect cards, I really like what they’re doing with those dark side cards with the skewed histories on the back. Those sound really neat. Lastly, they talk with Cole Horton who covers Star Wars and history. Lot of good guests packed into this one, though four back-to-back interviews was maybe a bit much. Felt like a long episode, and now looking back at it, it clocked in at 2 hours 41 minutes, so yeah, that’s a long one.

Fangirls Going Rogue: Episode #22 starts with D23 Expo coverage as Sarah was there. She talks about the park announcements and Harrison Ford being there. They talk a little about where the expansions will be located, then head into listener feedback which fuels some discussions. Afterwards they have Ashley Eckstein on to talk about upcoming The Force Awakens merchandise. Then Jimmy Mac comes on and the episode wraps up with a conversation on handmaidens. Another great episode with lots of topics.

Fly Casual: Episode 52 has a hilarious intro with a very creative analogy for Waru. They touch on Fantastic Four flopping, Star Wars news, EW pics, interview bits, and lots of laughs. For the toy segment, they review the Hot Wheels Ghost. Great episode as always.

Full of Sith: Episode CXXIX has the hosts discussing whether Biggs Darklighter will be in Rogue One, Drew Struzan’s comments on The Force Awakens, and how being a fan affects or doesn’t affect the film you’re working on. They also cover the surge in kids named Anakin, which leads to some stories from Bryan, and some pondering on why parents name their kids Anakin. Fun episode.

Geek Out Loud: Episode #150 features Steve and Erich as they “Pass the Corn” for the films of August, but first they weigh in on Ant-Man with lots of spoilers. I accidentally started listening to this one before I saw Ant-Man, so I had to stop and pick back up on it after I saw the movie. They do a good job of hitting on all the key elements of the film. Afterwards they share their thoughts on Fantastic Four (pre-release), and the other films that were slated for August. Lastly, they have a Tom Cruise discussion covering his movies Tropic Thunder, Jerry McGuire, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Legend, The Last Samurai, A Few Good Men, The Color of Money, Edge of Tomorrow, Jack Reacher and Collateral. Having Erich on for the entire episode really adds a different flavor to GOL and I think it’s for the better. Steve and Erich work well together as hosts.

Legends Library: Darth Plagueis episode features guest Alex Damon (Star Wars Minute) as they cover James Luceno’s novel Darth Plagueis. They talk about Plagueis’ master Darth Tenebrous, Plagueis’ apprentice Darth Sidious, their thoughts on the book, the surprises, and even comments on the audiobook. All in all a pretty good episode for book fans.

Mark Out Loud: Remembering Rowdy Roddy Piper is their send off episode for the passing of a legend. Now this is the first time I’ve tuned in for Mark Out Loud, and that’s because I don’t watch wrestling anymore, but there was a time that I did, and when I saw Rowdy Roddy Piper had passed and they did an episode on it, I knew I had to listen. They start with a great audio tribute to Piper, followed by a shot of AC/DC that just had me fired up and ready to go. It brought back some good old memories of watching Piper and his matches on tv as a kid. Steve and Dave share their memories of Piper, his matches, they talk about his history with the WWF and WCW, and even a little about his podcast. If you’re a Piper fan, you’ll want to listen to this one.

RebelForce Radio: Episode 8.21.2015 is their D23 episode as they go through the news–Rogue One cast, Episode IX director, Harrison Ford’s appearance, the Drew Struzan poster, and Star Wars Land at the Disney parks. They also compare Star Wars being told by committee versus being told by one person, and they mention Kitster’s inclusion in a top 10 list.

Star Wars Influences: Episode #13 starts with a some discussion on Star Wars filming and filming locations, and the new Star Wars Marvel comics. They cover Princess Leia, Lando, Darth Vader, the Obi-Wan one shot Star Wars #7, and they lightly touch on Kanan. Then they get to their main discussion, John Carter of Mars. They talk about the movie, the comics, the books, and the similarities between John Carter and Star Wars. It’s a nice episode covering all the mediums that John Carter touched and its relevance to our favorite fandom.

Star Wars Report: Episode #180 features Riley, Bethany, Steve and Teresa as they catch up. They cover Rogue One news, Star Wars Land and more. Good episode.

Who Shot First: Episode 3 pits Steele Saunders (Steele Wars) against Hello Greedo as they duke it out in contest of Star Wars trivia. As with previous episodes, it’s a fun formula for a podcast that allows fellow fans to geek out, compete, and share their love for Star Wars. Plus you can play along too and see how much you know about the galaxy far, far away.
