Release Dates for Episode VIII and ‘Rogue One’

release_datesDisney and Lucasfilm have revealed some very important release dates for their upcoming films, and Variety has the details. Star Wars Episode VIII will be out May 26, 2017 and the first Star Wars standalone film will be out December 16, 2016. Furthermore, the standalone film be called Rogue One. It will star Felicity Jones, and of course is being directed by Gareth Edwards. They also made it official that Rian Johnson is directing Episode VIII.

“Rogue One,” based on an idea by Oscar-winning vfx supervisor John Knoll, was written by “Cinderella” scribe Chris Weitz. Kathleen Kennedy will produce the standalone film alongside Knoll, Tony To and John Schwartz.
