  • Random House has launched their landing page for Kevin Hearne’s Heir to the Jedi which is now up for preorder. The book will be out on March 3rd, and having already read it, let me tell you, it’s worth the wait: fun, tight-knit story focusing on Luke and a new female character who is well crafted and enjoyable. It packs laughs and drama.

wow-vol-1-chronicle-not_finalDark Horse Comics is teaming up with Blizzard Entertainment for World of Warcraft: Chronicle Volume 1, the first in a series of books detailing the history of the World of Warcraft universe.

World of Warcraft: Chronicle Volume 1 is a journey through an age of myth and legend, a time long before the Horde and the Alliance came to be. This definitive tome of Warcraft history reveals untold stories about the birth of the cosmos, the rise of ancient empires, and the forces that shaped the world of Azeroth and its people.

“We often get questions from players who want to know more about the origins of the Warcraft universe, and the rise and fall of their favorite characters” said Paul Sams, chief operating officer of Blizzard Entertainment. “This new series digs deeply into all of that—we can’t wait for players to read it.”

This beautiful hardcover book features over twenty full-page illustrations by World of Warcraft artist Peter Lee and marks the first in a multipart series exploring the Warcraft universe; from the distant past to the modern era.

“This is an amazing project that will be absolutely irresistible to the legion of Warcraft fans. The people at Blizzard have been great to work with and we are extremely happy and proud to be working with them,” added Dark Horse President Mike Richardson.

World of Warcraft: Chronicle Volume 1 won’t be out until November 4, 2015, but you can preorder a copy on Amazon.

Comic News

  • EW has a look at Marvel Star Wars #1. The artwork looks pretty good for it.
  • Star Wars comics are now digitally available on comixology.
  • Randy Stradley shared an interesting tidbit on Facebook about their intentions for one of the characters in Dark Times: Fire Carrier.

Here’s a little known Star Wars fact for you all: Remember Sidirri, the little redhaired girl Padawan who was descending into sociopathy during the course of events in the Dark Times: Fire Carrier arc? Well, it was always our intention that she was to grow up to become the young redhaired wanna-be Sith who confronted Darth Vader on Dargulli in the Empire: Betrayal story (Star Wars: Empire #1–#4).

Sadly, we were never able to tell that part of the story. What do you think? Would that have been a good idea?

I’m not one of those people who wants to connect every dot. In fact, as an editor and storyteller I often object to a continuity that seems to exist only to provide connections. Not a dig at author Scott Allie, but the female “Jedi” in Betrayal always seemed to me to be such an anomaly, I felt that some kind of explanation was required.

I mean, by the time A New Hope rolls around, virtually all of the Jedi are supposed to be extinct. So who trained this young girl? Where had she come from? And what made her want to ally herself with Vader? Those kinds of questions planted the seeds for one of K’Kruhk’s “adopted” Padawans who would become a problem he couldn’t fix — a literal embodiment of the dark times.

Convention & Event News

First, let’s start with some Star Wars Celebration Anaheim news. The sequel to Smuggler’s Gambit will be Smuggler’s Bounty, and yes it’s happening at Anaheim though all of the voice talent hasn’t been revealed yet. Details on the cosplay contest have been posted, a pin trading program, and of course, the showing of both Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Jedi in 3D. Also, if you’re thinking about going to Disneyland while you’re out in Anaheim, you can now get discounted tickets. All of that is happening in April. Now for some events happening this month.
