Star Wars Books has posted a new excerpt from James Luceno’s Tarkin.
He turned his clean-shaven face to both sides and lifted his chin. He folded his arms across his chest, then stood with his hands clasped behind his back, and finally posed akimbo, with his fists planted on his hips. Drawing himself up to his full height, which was just above human average, he adopted a serious expression, cradling his chin in his right hand.
There were few beings to whom he needed to offer salute, though there was one to whom he was obliged to bow, and so he did, straight-backed but not so low as to appear sycophantic.
“Eliminate the top line collars on the boots, and lower the heels,” he told the droid.
“Of course, sir. Standard duranium shank and toes for the boots?”
Tarkin nodded.
Stepping down from the platform, out from inside the cage of laser tracers, he began to walk circles around the hologram, appraising it from all sides. During the war, the belted tunic, when closed, had extended across the chest on one side and across the midsection on the other; now the line was vertical, which appealed to Tarkin’s taste for symmetry. Just below each shoulder were narrow pockets designed to accommodate short cylinders that contained coded information about the wearer. A rank insignia plaque made up of two rows of small colored squares was affixed to the tunic’s left breast.
It’s not the most exciting excerpt from the book, but having already dived into an advance ARC, I can say there’s a lot more to look forward to. If you’ve been wonder if Tarkin knew who Darth Vader really is, just how much he knows about Palpatine, Vader, and the Sith, or even what Darth Sidious’ ambitions are now that he’s Emperor, then you’re in for a treat.

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.
Bombad Radio: Episode 169 is a double interview with voice actresses Belinda Cornish and Alix Wilton Regan. They talk Mass Effect, Dragon Age, voice acting and working with video game projects. Both are good interviews and entertaining guests which makes for a fun discussion. Plus I like the new outro music. Very nice.
Disney Vault Talk: Make Mine Music episode starts out with a lot of listener feedback, their challenge to RebelForce Radio as they throw down the gauntlet to do a Rebels spinoff show, and their “Disney Watch” segment covering various Disney news items. The focus of this weeks episode is the Disney film Make Mine Music which turns out to be a pretty fast discussion as they quickly go through the history and fun facts for the movie and then plow through each of the shorts that comprise the film. I’ve never seen this particular movie, but I have seen a couple of the shorts that are in it. Afterwards they do some post-show Disney trivia.
Full of Sith: Episode LXXXIV includes discussion on the Star Wars: The Clone Wars pre-viz content recently released on StarWars.com. They also talk about Star Wars Rebels “Spark of Rebellion”. There’s some small spoilers but nothing too major. Guests include Riley and Bethany from the Star Wars Report. Interesting episode as I haven’t had a chance to check out the pre-viz arc for TCW, but after hearing their discussion of it, I’m now very intrigued to check it out.
