Here is this week’s Around the Web news roundup of Star Wars and beyond.

Book News

  • Mike Stackpole fans have a lot to look forward to with the upcoming Athena’s Daughters anthology. Mike’s short story has now grown into a full length novella and he’s already planning on turning it into a full length novel at some point in the future. If you checked out our interview with Mike back in July, then you know this story will be set in his Crown Colonies series.
  • The Imperial Handbook is up for pre-order.
  • Star Wars Books released the opening crawl for James Luceno’s Tarkin.
  • Author Kevin Hearne posted an update including upcoming appearances, an Iron Druid eBundle, and a teaser for The Book of Five Meats.
  • Stories of the Raksura: Volume Two by Martha Wells is already up for pre-order over on B&N.

Movie & Television News

  • RebelForce Radio has some red carpet interviews with the cast and crew of Star Wars Rebels. You can watch it here.
  • The Digital Bits has a look at the case art for the Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 6 Blu-ray.
  • Star Wars Rebels has already been renewed for a second season.
  • Universal Studios is rebooting its monsters franchise and Dracula Untold will be the first in the series, followed by a reboot of The Mummy.
  • I Am Legend sequel is getting canned for a reboot with hopes of spawning sequels from that one instead. I wasn’t a fan of the Will Smith version so hopefully the next will be better.
  • Jude Law will be starring in a cool looking underwater heist movie called Black Sea which will be out January 23, 2015. I have to say Jude Law is looking more and more like Robert Shaw. If they ever do a Jaws reboot, he should definitely play Quint.
  • A little bit outside normal is the trailer for The Mule. It’s a weird premise, but it actually looks interesting.
  • Actor Russell Crowe is pulling double duty in The Water Diviner as he steps behind the camera in his directorial debut.
  • Liam Neeson is returning for Taken 3 which will be out January 9, 2015.

I’m not sure what to think of this one. Inherent Vice is either brilliant or a flop waiting to happen, but it definitely has a 70’s vibe and a variety of characters.
