The Black Series: Stormtrooper

The Hasbro 6-inch Black Series Stormtrooper is part of wave four and is marked as figure #09. The Stormtrooper is very similar to the Sandtrooper figure. Of course the Stormtrooper doesn’t come with the backpack or shoulder pauldron. Accessories include an E-11 blaster rifle and a DLT-20A blaster rifle. The armor is clean with no dirty wash like the Sandtrooper. There are a few minor differences in the armor.

As you can see below, the knee armor is identical, whereas the Sandtrooper had a knee guard on one of them. You’ll also notice the black dots on the waist, a feature not seen on the Sandtrooper.

Like the Sandtrooper, the Stormtrooper has a peg hole on his back, so if you want, you can give him a Sandtrooper backpack. The belt for the Stormtrooper is different from the Sandtrooper as well, featuring a cylindrical thermal detonator, a blaster rifle holster, and white pouches instead of black.

The articulation between the two figures is identical, including being able to twist the legs at the upper thigh. Note that the top of the leg armor does catch on the groin armor and can hinder movement. The pouches, thankfully, are very flexible and don’t get in the way (unlike Boba Fett and his non-flexible pouches).

The neck articulation can be very noticeable. This was kind of hidden on the Sandtrooper due to the shoulder pauldron.

A closer look at the leg armor catching on the groin armor.

The stormtrooper is pretty flexible, though. He can almost sit cross-legged.

Extreme close-up. I didn’t notice this at first, but the paint application beneath the brow lip is a little sloppy on this particular Stormtrooper.

The arms can hold the blaster rifle two handed, which is nice.

And here’s the big blaster rifle.

With lots of articulation, a good paint app, and an iconic characters, the Stormtrooper is a must buy. The real question is how many? One is cool, but two is better. And three, and four…but how many do you have to have to stage battles with your other figures? Hopefully there will be some opportunities for bulk discounts sometime in the future for troop builders.
