The Star Wars Art of Ken Kelly

There are many Star Wars artists who have contributed to the franchise. From movie posters to concept artists, and of course, comics. One comic artist who caught my attention is Ken Kelly. Ken is reknown for his fantasy paintings. Studying under Frank Frazetta, Ken’s style is reminiscent of that same style of painting. Throughout his career, he’s done artwork for magazines, book covers, record albums, toy manufacturers, and comics.

For Dark Horse, he did the covers for Star Wars: Republic: Prelude to Rebellion, Outlander, and Boba Fett: Enemy of the Empire. With those 18 covers, he left his mark by portraying Ki-Adi-Mundi, Tusken Raiders, Boba Fett and Darth Vader.

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Assembly of Geeks: “Star Wars Rebels and Rumors” has a lot of summer movie discussion as they talk about the best and worst summer movies this year. They also get into Avengers 2 and Ms. Marvel news and rumors. Then they talk with Pete Morrison (Rebels Report) to talk Star Wars Rebels. There’s a brief audio sample of their interview with A New Dawn author John Jackson Miller, and a segment with Jeremiah (Bombad Radio) on summer movie thoughts. If you like movies, this is a good episode to check out, though I still cringe every time Scott talks about Godzilla…some of us actually liked that movie ;)

Bonus Points with John Jackson Miller is a special mini episode featuring Scott’s interview with A New Dawn author John Jackson Miller. John talks about being filled in on season one, working with the executive producers, Dave Filoni, what he wanted to show in the book, and more. This is a spoiler free interview so feel free to give it a listen whether you’ve read the book or not.

Full of Sith: Episode LXXXI is a semi-live podcast from Salt Lake Comic Con as Bryan podcasts from there with an audience, and Mike and Bobby skype in. The audio is a little rough but there’s some good discussion and fan questions. Afterwards, Mike and Bobby wrap things up and, as a special treat, Ania joins them for a fun Star War conversation.
