Happy July the 4th! After last week’s vacation, I’m back and ready to dish out this week’s Around the Web news roundup of Star Wars and beyond. Enjoy!

  • Author Greg Keyes was interviewed by Michael Taylor over on examiner.com and talks about his latest book Dawn of the Planet of the Apes: Firestorm.
  • Author Drew Karpyshyn showed up as a guest on this week’s Star Wars Bookworms podcast.

Convention & Event News

  • Florida Supercon runs July 3 through 6 in Miami, FL. Star Wars guests include Timothy Zahn, Bob McLeodCourtenay Taylor and Deep Roy.
  • FantasyCon runs July 3 through 5 in Salt Lake City, UT. Star Wars guests include Kevin J. Anderson, David Farland (Dave Wolverton), Simon Pegg, and Adrienne Wilkinson.
  • WesterCon 67 runs July 3 through 6 in Salt Lake City, UT. Star Wars guests include Kevin J. Anderson and David Farland (Dave Wolverton).
  • Kevin Hearne Shattered book tour will be in San Diego, CA at San Diego Comic Con from July 24 to 27th.
  • Kevin Hearne Shattered book tour will be in San Diego, CA at the Upstart Crow on July 26th.

  • And in other fandom news, if you picked up a paperback copy of Crucible, Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void, or The Old Republic: Annihilation, take a moment to look at the back cover. You’ll see us there :) Thanks to Zinnos and Mark Newbold for pointing that out.

Movie & Television News

  • Aside from all the Star Wars news and rumors, Pacific Rim 2 is now officially getting a sequel and it will be out April 7, 2017 with Guillermo del Toro onboard and Zak Penn writing the script.
  • Andy Serkis will not only be doing a motion capture role of Star Wars Episode VII, but he’ll be in The Avengers: Age of Ultron too.
  • Phineas and Ferb fans can check out the trailer for the upcoming Star Wars episode.
  • And for those looking forward to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, there are three mini-prequels you can check out. Made by 20th Century Fox and Vice Media, the three mini-prequels tie-in to the release of the Simian Flu at the end of the first film, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and are set one year, five years and ten years after the event.
