Here is this week’s Around the Web news roundup of Star Wars and beyond.

Books News

  • CNET has a look at the next Star Wars book by Ian Doescher called The Empire Striketh Back.
  • Somewhat random, but Amazon has a listing for a deluxe box set of The Jedi Path and Book of Sith with an October 2014 release.
  • There’s also a listing on edelweiss now for a Star Wars Rebels: Visual Guide with a July 21, 2014 release date. It’s a hardback by DK Publishing, 144 pages.

Travel the galaxy far, far away and experience Star Wars Rebels firsthand with the companion to the new Star Wars animated series, Star Wars Rebels. Featuring key scenes and iconic moments, you’ll learn the ins and outs of the rebel legion. With tons of interesting facts and information about your favorite characters, weapons, vehicles, and locations from the new TV show, Star Wars Rebels: The Visual Guide is the ultimate guide for the ultimate fan!

  • In addition to his Star Trek novella Absent Enemies, which is coming out next month, John Jackson Miller is now writing a full length Star Trek novel for 2015. You can check out the news here.

Comic News

What it should properly be called is a “Deluxe Over-sized Edition.” It is 1) larger than comics size, 2) consists of a cloth-bound “clamshell: box which contains three separate books (also clothbound) — the story itself (issues #1-8), a separate volume of the #0 issue, and another volume comprised of sleeves with cellophane “windows,” each sleeve containing a print of one of the comic book covers. It is limited in the sense that we’re only printing as many as we believe we can sell. So if that’s “limited,” then every book we publish is limited. -Randy Stradley

  • Star Wars Club Portugal has an interview with Randy Stradley (scroll down the page for the English translation). It covers his start in comics and Dark Horse, killing Chewbacca and a new project he and Doug Wheatley are working on called King Tiger (which is a non-Star Wars project for Dark Horse Comics).
  • CBR also has an interview with Randy Stradley as well as Mike Richardson. Randy talks about wrapping up the current Star Wars comic lines, how Rebel Heist came about, his King Tiger project and more.
  • Star Wars artist Jan Duursema teased a new project, but we’ll have to wait till March.

Working on the final 2 pages of Dawn of the Jedi. What’s next? I can’t talk about that until March…

  • Nerdgasms has a nice interview with Star Wars comic artist Dave Dorman.

Fandom News

Television and Movie News

  • A new character for Star Wars Rebels has been revealed: Chopper the astromech droid.
  • For some wild Star Wars Episode VII rumors, you can check out the site Star Wars Episode VII News. They mention the use of EU characters with different names, Arndt working on Episode VIII and a supposed meeting between Timothy Zahn and J.J. Abrams. Whether there is any kernel of truth to any of it, who knows.
  • Star Wars has more Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 6 episode descriptions. You can also check out the German broadcast order here.
  • And now for something non-Star Wars. Arnold Schwarzenegger is returning to the role of Conan in The Legend of Conan.

Toy News

  • Yakface is reporting that the giant size Star Wars figures (31″ and 20″) will be seeing Star Wars Rebels characters as well as some more Original Trilogy characters like Boba Fett.
