Here is this week’s Around the Web news roundup of Star Wars and beyond. And to kick things off, let’s start with some ‘This Day in Star Wars’ trivia: On December 14, 1975, Twentieth Century Fox officially green-lighted Star Wars. One of the first steps in the legacy we enjoy today. Now on to…

Art News

  • You can check out Star Wars artist Dave Dorman‘s American Academy of Arts lecture online. In the video, he covers the full extent of his art career. At over an hour in length, you’ll need to set some time aside to watch this one.

Book News

  • Martha Wells has a chapter one teaser for her upcoming young adult novel Emile & the Sky World which will be out March 2014.
  • Martha also has some new audiobooks available: The Gate of the Gods and City of Bones. Tantor has both for half off this month. Wheel of the Infinite will be out December 31st.
  • Author Paul S. Kemp did an interview with Fantasy Book Critic that you can read here.
  • Temple Archives has an interview with Kenobi author John Jackson Miller on their latest podcast episode.
  • For Stephen King fans, the famous author is now on Twitter.
  • USA Today has an interview with author Kevin J. Anderson on his book Clockwork Angels.
  • Author Aaron Allston is working on a new story (note: “Replay Value” appeared in the anthology Time Traveled Tales).

Working today on “Demonized,” the second China Kyd story (a follow-up to “Replay Value”).

Comic News

Events

  • If you’re in the New England area, be sure to make some plans for December 28th as the Galaxy Blood Drive is happening and it’s a great way to help out. Star Wars author Ryder Windham will be there along with members of the 501st Legion.

Fandom

  • Over on deviantArt, oroster posted a neat looking Episode VII poster concept.

Indy News

  • Disney has obtained the distribution and marketing rights for future Indiana Jones films. According to news sources, Paramount is retaining the distribution rights for the first four films.
  • Next Tuesday (December 17) the Indiana Jones films will be available on Blu-ray for the first time individually.
  • And then there’s Indy producer Frank Marshall tweeting about being in the Indiana Jones office. There’s definitely some momentum building up.

Television News

  • If you live in the UK, Jedi News has a great Star Wars/Indiana Jones tv guide you can check out which maps all of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones programming for this holiday season.

Toy News

  • Sideshow Collectibles has an awesome looking 1:6 scale Darth Vader up for pre-order. Lots of nice pictures after the link.
  • For toy hunters still after the 6 inch Black Series figures, you can find some Wave One and Wave Two discounts on Amazon. While not as good as they’re Black Friday deals (when they were selling Wave One figures for half off), it’s still not to bad of a deal on Greedo ($12.05 Prime) and Luke ($11.24 Prime). R2 and Darth Maul are $14.99 for Prime members and you can get Leia a little below actual cost ($19.54 Prime). For Fett, you’re still best off seeking him in the wild. I managed to pick one up at Target yesterday, so make sure to check all your local stores.

Video Game News

  • LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga is now available for IOS devices. Having played the console version, it’s definitely a lot of fun.

Wear Star Wars, Share Star Wars Day

  • Today is Wear Star Wars, Share Star Wars Day 2013. It’s a combination of embracing geek pride and standing up against bullying. To show your support, you’re encouraged to not only wear Star Wars, but to also donate a toy to a child in need. If you’d like to read more about the event, StarWars.com has the full write up and you can check out the event’s Facebook page.

Last but not least, you can have some fun with the Star Wars crawl maker over on StarWars.com. I myself couldn’t resist taking a stab at a horrific, fanboy laden crawl for Episode VII.
