Steve Perry’s new book The Vastalimi Gambit is out today in paperback, audiobook and eBook. This is the second book in the Cutter’s Wars series.
At the close of the twenty-fourth century, a series of revolutions has caused the galaxy to descend into chaos. With the Galactic Union Army stretched thin, mercenary units have arisen for those who have the need—and the means—to hire them…
Kay, the alien member of the Cutter Force Initiative, has returned to her brutal home world of Vast on a mission of mercy. Before she joined the merc team, she was a great healer. And now her skills are sorely needed. Hundreds of Vastalimi—including her blood-kin—are dying mysteriously.
But is the plague a work of nature? Or is it a bioengineered virus, purposefully unleashed? Kay and Doc Wink will have to find out the hard way.
With the Cutter Force light-years away, the two find the odds against them—and on a planet like Vast, where violence abounds and life is cheap, they may be facing a foe they can’t defeat…

TFN Interview with ‘The Star Wars’ artist Mike Mayhew
December 30, 2013 at 11:16 am | Posted in Comic Books, Dark Horse, Interview, Star Wars | Leave a commentTags: mike mayhew, the star wars
TheForce.Net has an interview with Mike Mayhew, the artist behind Dark Horse Comics eight issue mini-series The Star Wars.
You’re responsible for the majority of the work that goes into designing the entirety of this alternate Star Wars galaxy. What does that process look like?
Well, that was something that was so daunting. And, the book was basically solicited before I came on, so any “extra” time I took to take the care and attention one would imagine that this project might need from a design standpoint was not a luxury. Pages were needed from day one. So, in essence, I needed to design everything, while doing penciling and inking chores on a monthly book. It would be like George designing Star Wars while he filmed it with the actors.
To make matters worse, I came on the book and agreed to a schedule, under the instructions that an “army” of artists was designing everything for me! This fell flat quickly for several reasons, some beyond anyone’s control, and because I actually wanted to control the design process, mainly so I wasn’t “stuck” drawing something that was difficult for me.

Comic Book Resources has an interview with Matt Kindt who talks about his upcoming Star Wars mini-series Rebel Heist. The four issue series will be launching in April and published by Dark Horse Comics. The series will feature artwork by Marco Castiello (who was a penciller for Knight Errant: Escape and Purge: The Tyrant’s Fist).
Matt had some interesting things to say about the new series, including the fact that he said ‘no’ at first.
I got myself into such a busy schedule this summer, so I told them no. Then, the next day, I was taking a shower or something, and I just had an idea. “That’s what I could do!” I wasn’t trying to think of an idea for it; an idea just popped into my head. So I called them back the next day. “If it can’t be this, I don’t know if I have time to think of another thing.” They were really great about it.
As well as the premise… Continue Reading Matt Kindt Talks ‘Rebel Heist’…
