Here’s this week’s podcasts in review.
501stCast: September 2013 Episode is out and covers all the latest 501st Legion news, from mission reports to upcoming events. If you want to catch up with what the Legion is up to, this is the place to go.
ForceCast: Episode 272 includes an interview with LucasBooks senior editor Jennifer Heddle. It starts at the 29 minute mark. Jen talks a little bit about how she became an editor for the Star Wars line and what her job entails. She also let drop that there will be more Star Wars books announced for 2014 in addition to those that have already been revealed, but they aren’t ready to reveal what those books are yet. Definitely good to hear that there’ll be more books.
Full of Sith: Special Release David Prowse and Peter Mayhew Episode has audio of the panel from Salt Lake Comic Con hosted by Bryan Young. If you’ve already listened to the Bombad Radio episode of the same audio, you can go ahead and skip this one, otherwise be sure to check it out to hear what David and Peter had to say about their work on the films.
Geek Out Loud: Episode 77 is a solo Steve show as he discusses being on Shotglass Digital Radio (thus giving new listeners an idea of what to expect) and covers some news for discussion as well as listener emails. If you like listening to Steve Glosson, then you know what kind of goodness to expect. Like he says, it’s your safe place to geek out and Steve always puts on an entertaining show covering all things geekdom and typically with a bit of Star Wars thrown in.
For even more of your Steve Glosson fix, you can check out Steve and Karl (from The Wampa’s Lair) on Know What I’m Saying for fun, candid conversation of everything random. Episode 3 is out and they talk about everything from dating at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim to breakfast cereal.
Jedi Journals: October 2013 Episode includes all the book and comic news for the month. They get into The Star Wars #1, The Making of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, and speak with Jonathan Wilkins (editor for Star Wars Insider). They also have a special Star Wars Reads Day Episode you can check out.
RebelForce Radio: Episode 9.27.2013 is my pick of the week. Jimmy Mac is joined by special co-host Steve Glosson from Geek Out Loud as they do a great roundtable discussion for John Jackson Miller’s new novel Kenobi. The roundtable is joined by Star Wars Del Rey editor Erich Schoeneweiss, and the voice of Obi-Wan, Star Wars: The Clone Wars voice actor James Arnold Taylor. They get into some great discussions about the book with behind the scenes details from Erich and some fun in-character lines from James. James even records a new special meditation excerpt at the end of the episode. In addition to the great roundtable discussion, the episode has an interview with the narrator for the audiobook, Jonathan Davis. A great episode for fans who enjoyed reading Kenobi.
Star Wars Beyond the Films: Episode 90 covers the comic mini-series Darth Vader and the Ninth Assassin. They don’t hold any punches, and both Mark and Nathan did not like the series, so fair warning. As always, they open with a spoiler free commentary before diving into serious spoilers (and there’s plenty of warning before they switch over).
Episode 91 changes gears and covers the new Legacy comic series (Legacy Volume 2 or Legacy: The Prisoner of the Floating World). Mark and Nathan have quite a lot to say about the series with a lot of discussion about the characters actions, the story, and the artwork. In fact they only get through the first three issues of the series in this episode. Both Mark and Nathan didn’t much care for art style of the series (and I agree, there are some oddities and frustrations in the art, though overall I think it works in its own way). If you’re looking to dive deeper into the comics, this one is worth a listen. Lots of spoilers after their initial spoiler free coverage.
The Wampa’s Lair: Episode 64 kicks off with a discussion of must read Expanded Universe novels with some focus toward new readers and where to begin. They have special guest Aaron Goins from Star Wars Bookworms on to help out with the recommendations. There’s some good choices and it’s a good episode for new readers to check out to get an idea of where to start in the EU. Later in the episode they discuss Kenobi so spoiler warning for those who haven’t read it yet.
