Thanks to the funding of the Hex MMO Trading Card Game Kickstarter, author Christie Golden will be writing a Hex novel. Here’s a snippet setting up the concept of the kickstarter.
Cryptozoic Entertainment, creators and publishers of the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game, is excited and proud to introduce HEX: Shards of Fate, the first real MMO/TCG. A completely unique game that takes place in an original and exciting fantasy world, HEX was created from the ground up as a digital trading card game and brings tremendous innovation to how a TCG can be played.
With all the social interaction and roleplaying you would expect from a fully featured MMORPG, along with the deep strategic and collectible game play of a TCG, HEX is a completely new gaming experience. We’re designing full card sets, dungeons, storyline, community tools, advanced AI, and so much more.
The kickstarter’s goal was $300,000. They not only met that goal, but crushed it. In the end, they racked up $2,278,255 which consequently met one of their stretch goals…
1.8M – HEX Novel written by a famous fantasy author.
That “famous fantasy author” then turned into Christie Golden. Here’s the official statement on their selection of Christie as the author.
HEX – The Novel by Christie Golden
Hello, Cory here!
I wanted to take this chance to announce Christie Golden as the author of our FIRST HEX novel!
As a bit of background, I have actually had the pleasure of working with Christie in the past (she was the author of several books for Blizzard, including my favorites).
Christie has an amazing track record (www.christiegolden.com) and has worked on some of the coolest universes out there from StarCraft and Warcraft to Star Wars and Star Trek. She made the NY Times best seller list seven times in the process, an incredible feat.
What I am most excited about is how Christie tells a story. I firmly believe character development is the most important element to successful storytelling. If I don’t care about the characters, there is very little chance I care about what’s happening to them and that will always kill my desire to stick with a book. Lucky for us, Christie is master of character driven storytelling, and I think we are all going to be falling in love with some of Entrath’s citizens very soon. Christie is currently pouring over our internal WIKI and exploring the deep lore of HEX; I cannot wait to hear what she thinks! Also, I just love that her first novel was for TSR, and Ravenloft no less…
We’ll keep fans updated as a release date and cover art is chosen.
