And here is this week’s news…
Conventions
Author Michael A. Stackpole is holding a contest for two free four day passes to Gencon which is being held in Indianapolis, IN from August 15-18th. To enter, all you have to do is take a picture of yourself reading a Michael Stackpole book. We’re pretty sure your chances of winning will be increased if you do so in complete Rebel pilot garb.
In other convention news, Caravan of the Force has recaps of their journey to Star Wars Celebration Europe II up on the Star Wars Blog: Day 1, Day 2 and Day 3, Day 4, Day 5.
A lot of news has been pouring out of CEII today, and we’ll have a rundown later on, so stay tuned. In the meantime, we recommend checking out Jedi News for extensive coverage.
Books
If you’re in Houston, TX today, be sure to swing by Murder by the Book because upcoming Star Wars author Martha Wells will be there for a book signing at 6:30 PM.
Tomorrow upcoming Star Wars author Kevin Hearne will be at Murder by the Book for a signing as well. It will be at 4:30 PM.
Interviews
Editor Betsy Mitchell did an interview for The Book Smugglers that mentioned author Timothy Zahn. Betsy was the editor for Heir to the Empire and Open Road Media has been releasing eBook versions of some of Zahn’s now out of print novels (which you can find here).
Timothy Zahn wrote a number of fine SF novels before he became a #1 New York Times bestselling author for his Star Wars novel Heir to the Empire. Yet his Star Wars fans were barely aware of the older works—in which they would find the same adventurous plots and likable characters as in the Star Wars titles. So now we can zero in on Tim’s Star Wars fans and make sure they know there’s much more available from their favorite Star Wars author.
Author Paul S. Kemp was featured in the Oakland County Legal News in an article where he talks about juggling writing, his law career and family. It mentions his upcoming book The Godborn, his recently released novel A Discourse in Steel and his Star Wars contract.
“The Disney acquisition put my situation on standby. I’m not sure when that’ll unfold. I’ll get some clarity when ‘Episode 7’ comes out and things will be less muddy from my perspective. Eventually, I’ll do another ‘Star Wars’ book; I just don’t know when.”
Jedi News also has a new interview up in their series with Star Wars Celebration Europe II artists. This time around they talk with longtime Star Wars artist JAKe which you can check out here.
Movies
Keanu Reaves is going to be in 47 Ronin, and the trailer looks pretty cool.
In other movie news, Judge Dredd fans might want to check out the fan film Judge Minty which isn’t too bad looking for a fan film.
