Director Roland Emmerich has revealed that Will Smith will not make an appearance in his highly anticipated sequel to his 1996 film, a film that coincidentally launched his career. And all for quite a specific reason. Find out why on the next page.
The director said, as reported by NYDailyNews:
“Will Smith can not come back because he’s too expensive, but he’d also be too much of a marquee name. It would be too much. We have like maybe half of the people that you know would know from the first film (in the script) and the other half people who are new.”
I for one am slightly disappointed, but not surprised in the slightest. Here’s hoping to seeing other familiar faces in ID 2, due out on July 3rd, 2015.
