Somewhatnerdy posted an interview with Star Wars artist Joe Corroney covering his Star Wars artwork and more. Joe talks a little about his future projects (which includes Star Wars and an upcoming print for Star Wars Celebration Europe), getting into the industry, and his favorite character.

Who is your favorite character to draw?

Joe Corroney: That would probably be a toss up between Darth Vader and Boba Fett. I like Darth Vader because his costume is dark and dynamic and it fits my graphic, high contrast drawing style. But I also enjoy that character’s story the most of anyone else in the saga—the light and dark side aspects to his nature, his fall from grace and redemption.  For storytelling purposes, it makes him a great character to work with.  Also, because he’s a masked character, you have to rely on body language or certain dynamic angles instead of expression when working with Vader in illustrated storytelling.  It’s fun and challenging at the same time. And I like Boba Fett because there’s so much incredible detail that makes him fun to draw.  And as a comic book artist, I really enjoy going over the top with detail whenever possible.  And from a personality standpoint, he’s the bad boy of the Star Wars universe. He’s the “man with no name” western character who has no real allegiances to anyone but himself.  You don’t want to cross him, but at the same time you want him on your side of the fight when it comes down to it.  All of that makes him really fun to work with in scenes.

Our Interview with Sebastien at Kosept

As a companion piece to our highlight of Kosept’s Star Wars art, we decided to dive a little deeper into the artwork by asking the artist himself. From inspiration and challenges, to upcoming projects, Sebastien shares a little about himself and his amazing artwork.

What inspired you in your Star Wars pieces?

Sebastien: As a graphic designer I naturally find inspiration anywhere around me but mainly in the street (graffs, street-art) and in extreme sports (snowboarding, surf, etc.). I also take my inspiration from Star Wars toys and statues. I collect them and even created a Star Wars-merchandising specialized website with friends of mine ( I love to draw from toys photos and often use Gentle Giant busts, Kotobukiya statues, Sideshow stuff for that. The Star Wars Art of Kosept

Browsing through Star Wars images on Pinterest, I came across a neat looking image of the droid bounty hunter IG-88. This find quickly lead me to more bounty hunters, and then a whole series of iconic Star Wars figures. The subjects are each presented with an interesting touch of flair. The way the detailed depictions of each Star Wars character blend and blur with abstract patterns adds a lot of depth to the imagery. As commented by the artist, the style is somewhere between tribal and urban, and the outcome is very cool.

The artwork is done by Kosept, and the work in this particular series is magnificent. Enjoy! Continue Reading The Star Wars Art of Kosept…
