First of all, congratulations on Scoundrels. What a fun and satisfying adventure this was to read. Was it fun to write?
Timothy Zahn: It was an immense kick. With a complex heist story like this you need to know pretty much every detail before you start, and as a result the actual writing just flew by. Actually, the whole process went pretty quickly – from our first conversations about the book to the finished first draft was less than eight months, with the writing time only three months. Kicking off with a little book news, upcoming Star Wars author Martha Wells revealed that she has almost finished work on her Leia novel which will be part of the Rebels series.
I’ve managed to stick to my writing goal, which is really good, as the Star Wars book is due by January 31. I should hopefully be done with the first draft in the next ten days or so, then be able to get a bunch of revision done before I send it in.
