Celebration VI in Pictures: Rancho Obi-Wan

Of all the events and booths at Star Wars Celebration VI, the Rancho Obi-Wan Experience Booth was near the top of my checklist. However it was also a very popular booth, and the long line kept me away for the first couple days. Finally I decided to bite the bullet and endure the wait in line. Luckily it really wasn’t a long wait as the line moved pretty quickly. Inside the booth was an even mix of rare Star Wars collectibles and really cool fan made objects. Each item had a little card with the item’s story. We’ve compiled a picture gallery of the booth, and while not every item it captured, it’s still a nice little virtual tour of the booth. Enjoy!

Eye on the Sky: Cygnus

If you look in the northern hemisphere’s summertime sky, you’ll see the lovely swan winging through the night.  This image of Cygnus-X ( a giant star-forming region in the Milky Way) was captured by the Herschel Telescope with combined infrared data.  Herschel is a European Space Agency mission.  Its science instruments are provided by a consortia of European institutes, and NASA is a participant in Herschel.

There was a lot to see and do at Star Wars Celebration VI, including the As You Wish Helmet Booth. The As You Wish Project is a charity raising money for the Make-A-Wish foundation. Artists came together to decorate Clone Trooper and Boba Fett helmets for eBay auctions that are going on right now (you can check them out here). Happy Birthday, Barbara Hambly and Vonda N. McIntyre

Today we wish a happy birthday to Star Wars authors Barbara Hambly and Vonda N. McIntyre. Both wrote during the Bantam era and each contributed their own piece to the Expanded Universe. Vonda with Waru in The Crystal Star, and Barbara with Callista in Children of Jedi, and the droch in Planet of Twilight.
