on-station-at-celebrationFor all of those who couldn’t make it to Star Wars Celebration VI in Orlando this year, we here at Roqoo Depot have taken it upon ourselves to send one of our Ewok commandos to the frontlines for on-the-scene reporting.

As the days unfold, you can stay up-to-date with news by following our Twitter stream (@roqoodepot) or keeping your eyes glued to the main page. Aside from news tweets, each day we’ll be posting a recap of all the activities we could squeeze an Ewok into. So kick back, relax, and let us do all the hard work for you.

To start things off, I’ll give fans a taste of the day zero experience.

My airflight got me in Orlando at noon and the weather was pretty nice. The sun was out and the temperature was around 84 degrees. Star Wars artist Grant Gould was on my hotel shuttle bus, and during the ride I met a four year veteran of Star Wars Celebrations named Roman. Roman was a really nice guy and gave me some tips since this is my first Star Wars Celebration convention.

The hotel I’m at is conveniently located within viewing distance of the Orange County Convention Center, and not too bad of a walk. Since this was zero day, I figured I’d go scout out the convention center. Roman also tipped me off that you could pick up your badge the day before CVI and get a jump start on things.

Off in the distance you can see the roof of the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC).

Along the way I enjoyed the landscaping around the sidewalks and the occasional statue. There’s actually a really cool looking building called the Wonderworks near my hotel. The place is designed as an upside down building, like someone dropped a government building out of the sky and it landed on top of another building. It looks really awesome and attracted a lot of attention from everyone passing bye.

At the convention center there is a huge banner with Vader and Yoda. Inside there was a lonely AT-AT waiting for some company, and a small stage with another CVI banner. Off to the right was a long ramp leading down to the ticketing area and a few more banners on the walls. I, on the other hand, headed for the press room to pick up my badge. To my surprise it was Darth Sidious (my favorite).

So I’ve got my badge, I’ve scouted the convention center, my schedule is set, and I’m all ready for Day 1 tomorrow. I’m sure it’s going to be a blast. :)

  1. Looks so awesome. I wish I could attend, but I live in New York and even if I could, school starts the day after the end of the Celebration.
