Tarkin Lives!

The above was posted by The Clone Wars voice actor Stephen Stanton yesterday on Facebook. We’ve known for a while that Stephen would be heading to CVI, but did you know he’ll be going in costume? That’s right, he’ll be at CVI as Tarkin, complete with uniform and even a custom wig. Now that’s dedication.

While you’re on his Facebook page, be sure to check out the status of his customer 1/6th Moralo Eval. It’s coming along nice.

Rock Center Profile: John Williams

Last night on Rock Center, host Brian Williams (no relation) spoke with composer John Williams.  While most of Rock Center’s coverage last night was focused on the London Olympics, a John Williams piece was more than a little apropos.  Williams did, after all, compose the Olympic theme we are all so familiar with (for the 1984 games in Los Angeles).  At 80 years of age, John Williams is still working, his latest project being the movie, Lincoln, starring Daniel Day Lewis.

John Williams is nothing if not prolific.  He’s garnered 47 Academy Award nominations and 5 Oscars.  Besides his easily most recognizable music, the theme to Star Wars, Williams has collaborated with Stephen Spielberg for 40 years.  Williams’ personal favorite movie/music from his collaboration with Spielberg is Schindler’s List, followed by Close Encounters and Jaws.

Visitors to Williams studio are often surprised to find there is no computer or synthesizer.  Williams works with a piano and a desk.  And if you’d like to hear the Maestro in person, you’ll find him during the summer at Tanglewood conducting the Boston Pops.

Utini Shout Outs!

A very big shout out goes to Col. Rob Keibler and Portland’s Cloud City Garrison.  Col. Keibler just spent 14 months in Afghanistan.  He returned home in time to surprise his son, Danny, at the 5 year old’s birthday.  Mom Marcelle posted a video on youtube and if you don’t get a tear in your eye watching it, then you are for sure an imperial.

Star Wars Report: for a good (and fun) article that’s both an explanation and a defense of fiction.  Not your thing?  No problem, but maybe don’t knock people who do enjoy it.  Cause really you’ll get no life points for it.

Geek out: Genevieve Dempre posted a great article on defending lady geeks.  Just in case you’ve been hiding out in a cave recently, there’s been quite the kerfuffle over a certain article denigrating female geeks.  Ms. Dempre’s article is a most worthy response.

Last but not least @Depressed Darth for this tweet: I would be more excited for the Opening Ceremony if the Olympic torch was a lightsaber.

There’s no way we don’t approve of that message.

Conspiracy Report: Begun The Junk Wars Have

Once again we’ve sent out our Kubaz spies to scour the galaxy for breaking news and tantalizing rumors (Bothan spies are overrated anyways). This week they’ve come back with some startling information on Paul S. Kemp’s secretive Star Wars duology.

Sometime next year we’ll get to see the first book in Paul S. Kemp’s yet-to-be-revealed Star Wars duology. We don’t know much about Paul’s two books yet…or do we? In an interview with Civilian Reader, Kemp mentioned that the duology will be hardcover. Del Rey Editor Frank Parisi described it as “a very ambitious project.” We know we’ll get a Big 3 novel from Denning next year in the form of Crucible. We’ll also be getting Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void by Tim Lebbon, and The Last Jedi by Michael Reaves and Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff.

We’ve spent many hours extrapolating the known data and meditating on the fumes of old Star Wars novels in order to ascertain what it could all mean. Our conclusion is this: Paul S. Kemp’s duology will be a story about Squibs. Continue Reading Conspiracy Report: Begun The Junk Wars Have…
