StarWars.com has unveiled round three of the Celebration VI art which includes an awesome piece by Dave Dorman. I’ve been waiting patiently to see what Dave was going to come up with, and to my great surprise, it’s an Endor piece that includes my favorite furry little aliens: Ewoks! The piece isn’t quite done yet, but it looks pretty nice.

San Diego Comic Con 2012 and the future of Star Wars

Making the news rounds is the San Diego Comic Con 2012 event schedule which includes an interesting Friday panel.
3:00-4:00 The Future of Star Wars Publishing: Dark Horse & Del Rey— Find out what’s coming up in the Expanded Universe of Star Wars publishing. Editors Randy Stradley and Dave Marshall from Dark Horse Comics discuss what’s next for Agent of the Empire, Dawn of the Jedi, Lost Tribe of the Sith, and Darth Maul, as well as reveal a new secret title that’s on the horizon. From Del Rey Books editors Frank Parisi and Erich Schoeneweiss, along with author Troy Denning (Apocalypse), look at new novels coming later this year from fan-favorite authors Timothy Zahn and Aaron Allston, as well as give a peek into 2013. Also on the panel is Jennifer Heddle, senior editor at LucasBooks. Moderated by author Pablo Hidalgo (Star Wars: The Essential Reader’s Companion). Room 7AB
We know Agent of the Empire’s next arc will be Hard Targets (and we may already have a glimpse of the cover), and a new Darth Maul series might mean Death Sentence is getting the Blood Ties treatment. It’ll be interesting to see what new arcs they have planned as well as what directions they might be going. There’s a possibility the secret title could be the Luke Skywalker comic Tom Taylor mentioned in a CBR interview.
On the book side, speculation is already abounding on whether Troy Denning’s presence on the panel means he’ll be coming back for another book or whether it’s just a matter of convenience. Regardless, a sneak peek at the future could also mean the revelation of Paul S. Kemp’s ambitious, unnamed duology which is set for release early next year. Time will tell.

‘Mercy Kill’ Mini-excerpt #3
June 29, 2012 at 7:46 am | Posted in Star Wars Books | Leave a commentTags: aaron allston, Mercy Kill
Star Wars Books has posted a mini-excerpt from Aaron Allston’s Mercy Kill which reveals yet another character with an important role in the novel.
Face’s approach was so silent that neither noticed until he was almost at the table. Both turned to look at him and, seeing the expression on his face, fell silent.
He turned to Dia. “I promise I will never make you so mad that you borrow an X-wing, take it up, and use it to burn me to a cinder.”
“Smart of you.” She gestured at the third chair. “Whose turn is it to cook?”
“Yours.”
“We’ll order something.”
He sat and turned to his daughter. “And you, young lady . . . Beware of older military officers who chase you when you’re a teenager. They’ll just dump you when you turn thirty.”
She sighed and rolled her eyes. “Dad, I hate it when you bring work home.”
That’s right X-Wing fans, Face Loran is not only in Mercy Kill, he’s now officially a dad, but don’t expect to see too much of Dia and his daughter. Face, on the other hand, will get some good page time, though perhaps not as much as you would expect due to a little surprise or two Allston has up his sleeve.
You can find the previous excerpts here: mini-excerpt #1, #2, the bonus excerpt, and the audio excerpt.
