Avengers Review

May 7, 2012 at 1:37 pm | Posted in Movies, Reviews | 1 Comment

Judging by this weekend’s box office, we’re the only people in North America who haven’t seen The Avengers.  Fortunately, we have friends over at Tosche Station who have not only seen it but are lending us their review.

The following review, while spoiler-free, has explicit spoilers for Thor as well as potential implied ones for Iron Man 2 and Captain America. That said, if you’re reading this review and haven’t seen those yet, go watch them and then come back here.

The thing about The Avengers—or Avengers Assemble, which only about ten people actually call it—is that it was pretty much guaranteed to be at least decently good. Obviously, until it came out, there was no gauge of exactly how good it was, but like macaroni and cheese or chocolate, for it to actually be bad, something would need to have gone pretty spectacularly wrong.

Mara Month: Roqoo Depot Interview with Timothy Zahn

To help celebrate Mara Month, we went straight to the source, the creator of Mara, Timothy Zahn. We asked Mr. Zahn what some of of his favorite Mara moments are, how Mara came to be, and more. Enjoy and stay tuned as we will be celebrating Mara all month.

What are some of your favorite Mara moments?

TZ: That’s a hard one — there are so many. If I have to pick three (okay, six): killing C’baoth and saving the day (The Last Command), chiding Luke for his overuse of the Force (Vision of the Future), helping Luke take out a droideka (Survivor’s Quest), letting the Hand of Judgment go (Allegiance), traversing the railing under enemy fire (Choices of One), and her unwelcome but genuine feelings of loss at the end of that book.

Star Wars Insider #133 ‘Hunting the Gorach’

In case you missed it, Star Wars Insider #133 is out and it features new fiction by Scourge author Jeff Grubb. The short story is entitled Hunting the Gorach and follows the Hutt Parella the Hunter.

“The stories of the Gorach said they did not age, and met their end only by violence. I think it is a single beast you have been reporting for centuries. I will bring him to heel, and place his stuffed and preserved form in my hall. He will be a piece of art for my fellow Hutts to admire as I regale them with the tale of the hunt.”

While the story is short, it has a neat ending. Plus there are some nice illustrations by Joe Corroney. It’s worth checking out.

FANgirl Interview with Jeff Grubb

FANgirl Blog
posted an interview with Scourge author Jeff Grubb. It covers Mander, Reena, Angela, and of course, Hutts.

I found the Hutt characters in Scourge to be interesting individuals, while retaining a sense of “Huttness.” Are you particularly fond of Hutts? Do you have a favorite Hutt?

Jeff Grubb: I am a fan of Hutts (and most of the alien species of Star Wars).  I wanted to remain true to the “brand” of Hutts, but also show variety among them, and to show Hutts struggling against their own legend (Mika, for example). Of the Hutts in the book, I would say I like Parella the best – if only because he seeks out new experiences, but never really learns from them.
