Today Scourge author Jeff Grubb did a live Facebook chat on Star Wars Books Facebook page. You can view the chat in its entirety here, or you can check out our edited transcript below.
How did you get involved in writing for the Star Wars Universe?
JG: I was recommended for the opportunity by Troy Denning (Thanks, Troy!). I’ve had a lot of experience in shared worlds and have worked with the Star Wars universe before, so it was a great opportunity.
How did the idea for SCOURGE come about?
JG: When this book was first being discussed, I pitched a number of ideas. One of them was based on an RPG adventure I had written for the Star Wars d20 Game from WotC. That project was called Tempest Feud, and forms the heart of the novel. Continue Reading Jeff Grubb Facebook Recap…
Happy Birthday, Ani

From the brooding glare to his pouting whine, he was (whether you like it or not) the quintessential Anakin Skywalker, and today Hayden Christensen turns 31.
Not fond of Hayden’s performance in the Prequel Trilogy? Do yourself a favor and pick up Shattered Glass. Hayden gives an amazing performance as Stephen Glass, the real life reporter who, from 1995 to 1998, fabricated much of his work for The New Republic.
Roqoo Depot wishes Hayden a happy birthday and continued success.

Parella the Hunter: ‘Scourge’ Mini-excerpt #7

Star Wars Books has posted mini-excerpt #7 for Jeff Grubb’s upcoming novel Star Wars: Scourge.
“Hagwa doopee!”
Don’t move! Turning, Mander saw a strange form emerge from the shadows of an archway beyond the bridge. It looked like a Hutt wrapped in metal, its semifluid body covered with overlapping plates. Its neckless head was enshrouded in a dome of durasteel, with a narrow windows cut for the eyes and ringed with sensors. The entity carried a stun baton in its metal-shod hands. The armored Hutt barked again, and this time a translation voder squawked in Basic.
“Flee, you cowards!” said the translator. “Make this a good sport! For you are the prey of Parella the Hunter!”
“You have got to be kidding me,” said Reen, and opened up with her blaster.
Scourge will be out on April 24th. You can check out the previous mini-excerpts here: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, and #6, plus the two Random House excerpts here and here.

April 19, 2012 at 8:56 am | Posted in Events, Humor | 1 CommentTags: hutt week, hutts
Here at Roqoo Depot we strive to bring you the highest quality of entertainment. In our continuing celebration of Hutt Week, today we are going to take a look at how to kill a Hutt.
Hutts have a reputation for being hard to kill. After hours of strenuous research on Wookieepedia, and a moment of inspiration, we derived the perfect way to convey the information. We combined the tragic deaths of the Hutts in the Star Wars Expanded Universe with Paul Simon’s famous song “Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover.” So kick back, hum along to the tune, and enjoy our revised lyrics.
‘Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope’ Movie Review

Over the weekend I was able to see the premier of Morgan Spurlock’s latest film, Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope in Washington, DC. Spurlock himself was attending the last two showings of the evening, but tickets were sold out for both of them.
As a fan of all things ‘cosplay, sci-fi and video games’ and a regular convention attendee, I was very excited to know that a well known filmmaker such as Morgan Spurlock would choose to create a documentary about Comic-Con. Unfortunately, the film didn’t exceed my expectations, but nor did it fail to meet them. Continue Reading ‘Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope’ Movie Review…
Jeff Grubb Talks Scourge
April 19, 2012 at 1:00 am | Posted in Events, Interview, Star Wars Books, Star Wars News | Leave a commentTags: hutt week, hutts, jeff grubb, scourge
Geek Life posted an interview with Scourge author Jeff Grubb yesterday. Jeff talks about his first experience with Star Wars, working with continuity, his suggestion of a Hutt cover, his ideas behind Mander Zuma, and more. I also really liked his answer to this question because it mentioned a theme I spotted when reading about the Hutts and their family.
Other than Canon what were your influences for Hutt Space in the novel, Scourge?
JG: A big influence was another great movie from the 1970s – The Godfather. How I treated the Hutts was very much about the balance of family and business – even though it is extremely nasty business. It is a given that the Hutts are the gangsters of space. What this book does and examines how that fits together with the Hutt concepts of family, which can make them vulnerable.

And don’t forget, later today Jeff Grubb will be doing a live Facebook chat on Star Wars Books Facebook page at 4:00 PM EDT.
