EU Cantina has posted a very nice interview with Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare author Jason Fry. The interview covers how the project went from Karen Traviss to him, what didn’t make the cut, as well as the reason for the name change…

“The far bigger reason was that I thought “Military” sounded like a book that would be really heavy on hardcore quantitative stuff — unit organizations, warships specifications, fleet data, and so forth. I have immense respect for that way of looking at the subject, but I wasn’t interested in writing that kind of book — and, frankly, I thought the audience for such a book would be relatively small.

I was interested in widening the focus beyond numbers and specifications — I wanted to look at history, and military philosophies, and personalities, and to keep shifting the narrative back and forth between historical overviews and in-universe documents and individual soldiers’ stories. Titlewise, “Warfare” felt like a much better fit for that approach.” -Jason Fry

Today we wish a very happy birthday to Star Wars author Kevin J. Anderson. As always, Kevin is staying busy. His latest book releases include The Sisterhood of Dune, Veiled Alliances (a prequel to the Saga of the Seven Suns series), and Tau Ceti. In September his new original novel Death Warmed Over: Dan Shamble, Zombie P.I. will be out. He’s also working on a very special project with the legendary rock band Rush.

A long time friend of Rush drummer and lyricist Neil Peart, Kevin and Neil are working on a collaboration for Clockwork Angels. Clockwork Angels is Rush’s upcoming new album. To coincide with the release, Kevin will be writing a novelization for the album.

“In a young man’s quest to follow his dreams, he is caught between the grandiose forces of order and chaos. He travels across a lavish and colorful world of steampunk and alchemy, with lost cities, pirates, anarchists, exotic carnivals, and a rigid Watchmaker who imposes precision on every aspect of daily life.”

You can stay in touch with the latest Kevin J. Anderson news by following him on Twitter, Facebook, or checking out his site or blog.
