In this week’s edition of Tosche Station Radio, Brian and Nanci get a bit ranty with the news and discuss what they would love to see in the post Fate of the Jedi Expanded Universe.

Starting off the show in Fixer’s Flash, Nanci is re-reading Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor and gives Brian a hard time for not having read it. She’s also looking for help naming her new car, but apparently Lady Luck is out of the question. How about the Wild Karrde? Brian is still trapped in the Marvel universe, having read through the House of M and diving into the Young Jedi Knights of the Marvel-verse, the Young Avengers. He also has a bit of trouble containing his excitement for Tuesday’s release of Mass Effect 3.

Aurelia: As a female, I can tell you that I am not always happy with how women are portrayed in the media. This includes books, comics, movies and even my first sci-fi love – Star Wars. Apparently, an issue has arisen among some in the Star Wars ‘fandom’ surrounding the visual portrayal of the Expanded Universe character, Mara Jade Skywalker. Mara is almost always seen wearing a form-fitting catsuit that many say is not as distinguished as more Jedi-like attire seen on both Luke and, lately, his sister Leia.  An example of this unrealistic portrayal of Mara, is her picture on the cover of the book Star Wars Legacy of the Force: Sacrifice.  At that time Mara was 57, but she actually looks to be in her early 30’s on the cover. Now, you may be thinking, is that really an issue? Personally, since it is only a book cover, I do not think so. However, if you see the picture of Leia on the cover of Star Wars Legacy of the Force: Exile, Leia is depicted age appropriate whereas Mara isn’t, even though they are around the same age. Now, we can’t change the images on the cover of the books, but we can talk about why Mara is portrayed as young & sexy all the time. Continue Reading The Mara Catsuit Dilemma…

UGO interview The Clone Wars voice actor Sam Witwer yesterday. Sam will be voicing Darth Maul, and according to the interview, we’ll be seeing more of him next season.

What’s your favorite thing about Darth Maul?

SW: I like how smart and charming he is.  That’s something you might not necessarily see in these next few episodes, but you will see that sometime in the future. We’ve really created a very compelling and interesting guy who has a lot more to him than maybe people knew.

You can read the full interview here.

New Release: ‘A Rising Thunder’ by David Weber

It’s been two years since Mission of Honor. If you’re an Honorverse fan, the long wait for the next chapter is over. For those who aren’t aware of the Honorverse, A Rising Thunder is the thirteenth book in David Weber’s Honor Harrington series. This is a military sci-fi series that follows the main character Honor Harrington and her adventures in a war between star nations. It’s not a series for everyone, but if you’re one of the readers who get hooked, you’ll find the books thoroughly engrossing. I for one love the series and will definitely be picking this one up.

If you haven’t already pre-ordered the book, you can find here on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. You can also read the six chapter excerpt on Baen’s official website.
