USA Today posted an article today that shares some new interesting news on the upcoming Darth Maul episodes of The Clone Wars.

In the upcoming Clone Wars arc, General Grievous launches an attack on Maul’s homeworld of Dathomir, and Mother Talzin of the Nightsisters has told Savage Opress (voiced by Clancy Brown) about Darth Maul, sending Opress on a quest to find his long-lost brother.

They also included a nice quote from Dave Filoni.

We saw the warrior, definitely. But what we weren’t as aware of was how trained Darth Maul was — not fighting using the ways of the Dark Side, but his intellect and his cunning as he learned from Darth Sidious.

The article also mentions Maul being out for revenge against Obi-Wan and no longer having his iconic double bladed lightsaber. You can read the full article here which also includes a video of Maul and his new lower half. Enjoy!

Feel free to discuss Darth Maul’s new robo legs on our forums.

Star Wars Books has posted their fifth excerpt from Troy Denning’s upcoming novel Apocalypse.

When Allana did not reply, her mother took her hand. “They’re going to be fine. If anyone can do this, it’s Han and Leia Solo.”
“I don’t think you can promise that,” Allana said, continuing to study the cloud-veiled planet in front of them. “Even Grandpa and Grandma don’t usually fly into the middle of a Sith ambush— at least not on purpose.”

FOTJ: Apocalypse comes out March 13th. You can check out the previous excerpts here: #1, #2. #3 and #4.

Tosche Station #5 – Big Bad

Podcast: Stream Here | Download

Things get dark on this week’s installment of Tosche Station Radio as Nanci and Brian delve into the Dark Side and discuss their favorite villains in science fiction and fantasy.

To kick off the show in Fixer’s Flash, Nanci plugs the article she wrote for Valentine’s Day, a soul-crushing look into romances in Star Wars that ended in utter tragedy. Can you feel the love tonight or is that just us? Brian talks briefly about an article he wrote over at Roqoo Depot that skips the romantic subplot all together and delves into the relationships that really matter: bromances*. Speaking of Roqoo Depot, the hosts congratulate them on their one-year anniversary and commend them for somehow managing to survive giving Brian a writing gig.

*It was somewhat legen-wait for it**

Youngest Person in the world to create Nuclear Fusion

February 23, 2012 at 9:02 am | Posted in Science News | Leave a comment

Taylor Wilson is the 31st person to privately (without government or industry funding) create nuclear fusion. He did it at the age of 14 making him the youngest person to ever achieve nuclear fusion. The story of Taylor’s journey toward achieving his dream was covered by Popsci. It’s a great read and I highly recommend checking out the article.  Taylor’s journey includes turning his parents garage into a radioactive laboratory, family vacations to Nevada to prospect for uranium, and the fun aspects of traveling through the airport with 60 lbs of bomb fragments and radioactive material. You can read the article here and you can even check out Taylor’s website.

What Lawyers Do When They Get Bored

They write clauses into warranties, like this one for Asus computers.

There is damage caused by natural disaster, intentional or unintentional misuse, acts of war, space invasions, abuse, neglect, improper maintenance, or use under abnormal conditions.

I find this hilarious.  I’m also pretty sure if we ever do get invaded by space aliens, my computer warranty is going to be at the bottom of my list of concerns.

Raising the Next Generation of Star Wars Fans: Passing the Torch

February 22, 2012 at 8:47 am | Posted in Opinion | Leave a comment

When family members of mine introduced me to the Star Wars movies, it changed my life. I became aware of science fiction, graphic novels, and video games all through one franchise. Star Wars has opened up so many doors for me, and I’ve seen it open up doors for other young people. As a lover of Star Wars, one of my greatest joys has been to cultivate the next generation of fans.

My first experience introducing ‘younglings’ to Star Wars was through babysitting. I brought my Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie DVD with me one night to watch with a 5-year-old boy whom I was taking care of. As soon as he saw it, he was hooked. He became enamored with Star Wars to the point where he had a Star Wars birthday that year, including a magician dressed as Obi-Wan Kenobi. This birthday party introduced the concept of Star Wars to all of the boy’s friends, and pretty soon his entire preschool was involved. Now, when I walk by his preschool, I can still see the Return of the Jedi movie poster they hung during the school’s (now annual) ‘Star Wars Day’. All the children at the preschool got to make their own light sabers and play ‘Jedi vs. Sith’ games for the day. It’s amazing to think that because of just introducing one small boy to Star Wars, an entire group of young children are now in love with a galaxy far, far away.
