‘The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.’ – Supreme Chancellor Palpatine

For nearly 35 years we have learned many things about the Dark Side of the Force and the Sith in general through the expanded universe.  Daniel Wallace has taken those explorations to the next level with his Book of the Sith.  After the break you can read my review of this unique book.

In an effort of full disclosure I will readily admit that my review copy didn’t include the fancy pyramid box and all the goodies, and in hindsight that’s probably a good thing.  Knowing myself as well as I do I’m positive I would still be playing with all the goodies instead of writing this review.

Sadly I haven’t been able to read Wallace’s Jedi Path yet so I wasn’t quite sure how the layout of Book of the Sith would be, I will say that I am very happy with the book though.  It offered a unique glimpse into the Dark Side teachings and beliefs spanning many generations of Sith and the fact that it’s written in-universe is very cool.

It was fun reading the thoughts of Sith and Dark Side users from many mediums as well.  With Mother Talzin’s role in the Clone Wars series it was interesting to read her passage in the book and her beliefs about the Nightsisters.  I’m really in hopes that their role isn’t completely wrapped up in The Clone Wars cartoon, it would be fun to see them face off with a newly minted Jedi Knight Luke.

This book even included a passage from Darth Malgus from The Old Republic video game.  Now while that doesn’t surprise me in the least it is nice to see newer EU entries brought in to the fold.

All in all with all the inclusions of esoteric mentions of Dark Side abilities and techniques that have been talked about in the past but never really looked at in an in-depth way Book of the Sith is a lot of fun and an excellent addition to the expanded universe .

I easily give this book a solid 4 out 5 brass bikinis:

  1. I’m really hoping that they’ll eventually put out a non-vault version like they did for Jedi Path. I really want this book, but it is simply out of my price range. It looks really amazing, though.

  2. It wouldn’t surprise me if they did do a regular version, but it probably won’t be out for a while.
