Star Wars author Timothy Zahn has posted a few updates on his Facebook page worth taking note of. First off, his upcoming, untitled Han Solo novel will be set around A New Hope. As of yet, it hasn’t been determined whether it will take place after or before. In other news, a fan asked about the Chiss’ appearance in Star Wars: The Old Republic and how that would fit in with Zahn’s stories.

If I had to hand-wave this one, I’d probably say that over the thousands of years between SWTOR and HttE the Chiss pulled back to their own territory and the records of them were lost.

From another point of view, of course, the fact that the game designers thought the Chiss popular enough to include is a wonderful compliment. However we have to work things to make the the continuity shake out, it’s an honor to have Thrawn’s people kicking butt and taking names.

Now if only someone could get them to ask me to write a side adventure… -Timothy Zahn

Plus Tim has a new book out this week, Cobra Gamble, the third book in the Cobra War Trilogy. Available in hardcover, eBook, and audiobook formats, you can pick it up at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or your local bookstore. You can also click on the link for it on Baen.com for a free five chapter preview.

SWTOR Named Game of the Year by In-Game and GameSpy

Todd Kenreck, editor in chief for MSNBC’s In-Game named Star Wars: The Old Republic the game of the year.  Entered into a competition against Portal 2, Skyrim, Batman: Arkham City, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, Kenreck had nothing but praise for TOR.  He listed the tech innovation, story telling, art and finished with:

“They redefined what a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game could be.”

You can catch the entire announcement/mini-review on video at MSNBC Online.

Kenreck isn’t alone in picking TOR as game of the year.  So did GameSpy with sentiments echoing Kenreck.

“we’ve become fully immersed in SWTOR unlike any MMO before it.”

Not bad for a game that launched less than a month ago.  Congratulations to everyone involved in creating SWTOR.

Aaron Allston posted on his blog today that he’ll be the Guest of Honor at the Origins Game Fair this year. The Columbus, OH convention is still a ways off (May 30-June 3) so there’s plenty of time to plan ahead. Allston posted his full schedule for the con which you can read here. It’s worth noting that Allston will be there with fellow Star Wars authors Timothy Zahn and Michael A. Stackpole.

Beyond Origins, Allston mentioned he’ll also be trying to attend ArmadilloCon in Austin, TX; Celebration VI in Orlando, FL; and Dragon*Con in Atlanta, GE.
