Star Wars Invades Dubai

TheNational posted an interesting article on an upcoming book called Dark Lens that will portray the city of Dubai pictorially. However, there’s a twist: the picture will all include elements from Star Wars. Be it Stormtroopers marching through the streets or X-wings flying overhead, each picture will contain a different piece of the Star Wars saga to show Dubai in a whole new light. The book is slated to be published in October, with pictures taken by Cédric Delsaux, and an introduction by George Lucas himself.
“Over the years, many artists have interpreted Star Wars in ways that extend well beyond anything we saw in the films. One of the most unique and intriguing interpretations that I have seen is in the work of Cédric Delsaux, who has cleverly integrated Star Wars characters and vehicles into stark urban, industrial – but unmistakably earthbound – environments. As novel and disruptive as his images are, they are also completely plausible.” -George Lucas
If the images look familiar it’s probably because you’ve seen some of Delsaux’s work already. His earlier image mash ups utilized Star Wars statues digitally inserted into photographs. Since then he has graduated to 3D models with assistance from George Lucas’ team.
Some of the photos from the book will be featured in the Dubai Futures art event in London from July 18th to July 23rd. You can read the full article from TheNational here, as well as a very nice slideshow of some of the images. You can also check out Delsaux’s official website here.
