Last Chance To Get Your Face Into Outer Space

Well it’s 5:30 EDT here in the eastern US so I suppose I start Science Tuesday by admitting that the Fourth of July holiday got me all spun around and I spent most of the day thinking it was Monday and that I had a whole ‘nuther day to ponder how I would present my latest find from our esteemed space program. Having said that, I now give you, dear reader, the opportunity to put your face in outer space.

"Beam me up Atlantis. It's time for a space samba."

From NASA’s official web site I give you the link by which you can still, time permitting, upload a picture of your gorgeous mug and have it flown into space on the final Space Shuttle mission this Friday. The Space Shuttle Atlantis (STS-135) is scheduled to launch from NASA’s storied spaceport in Cape Canaveral FL at 11:36 EDT and will spend 12 days in space. Once again it will dock with the International Space Station where it will ferry crew members and deliver parts and other supplies.

From the NASA site:

NASA wants to put a picture of you on the final space shuttle mission and launch it into orbit. To launch your face into space and become a part of history, just follow these steps:

First…Select the Participate button at the bottom of this page and upload your image/name, which will be flown aboard the space shuttle. Don’t have a picture to upload? No problem, just skip the image upload and we will fly your name only on your selected mission!

NextPrint and save the confirmation page with your flight information.

LaterReturn to this site after launch to print your Flight Certificate – a commemorative certificate signed by the Mission Commander. You can also check on mission status, view mission photographs, link to various NASA educational resources and follow the commander and crew on Twitter or Facebook.

You’ll have to click the link to the NASA site to register of course. I’ll give you that link again here.

That photo up there is me. It will fly into the heavens this Friday. I’m almost sorry that the old myth about a camera capturing your soul isn’t true. I’d rather like to think a part of me made it up there. Then I could end this piece with a photo that looked something like this.

"Oops, gotta go... my ride's here."
