Have you ever wanted to buy a book that cost about as much as a computer? Fortunately some Star Wars fans have credits burning holes in their pockets, so a $500 price tag doesn’t quite scare them away. If you’re curious what makes a book worth $500, then check out what Star Wars: Blueprints can offer you.
First off copies of the original blueprints, concept sketches, and technical drawings used for the creation of the Star Wars films. Secondly the book includes images and photographs of the crew and creators as they were making the films. Thirdly the images are accompanied by commentaries from Star Wars author J.W. Rinzler. But the real money maker is the quality of the book itself. Only 5,000 copies will be sold. The book will feature a cloth case, 200gsm matte paper pages with a varnish seal (for those who don’t know, gsm stands for g/m², typical typing paper is only 80 g/m², so these pages are two and a half times thicker), and weighs 22 pounds!
But don’t think you have to blindly purchase this epic tome of Star Wars material. This book has it’s own website. Peruse the pages, check out the stats, and just drool at the exquisite details of this masterpiece. If you’re really looking for an excuse as to why you need it, just tell yourself it’s for your new exercise program. While you’re reading it at night, you can curl the 22lb tome and get a workout. Who needs P90X?

For Science Thursday I give you a picture taken of The Automated Transfer Vehicle Johannes Kepler from the International Space Station that was posted on the ISS’s Facebook page this morning.
Good morning #FromSpace. The Automated Transfer Vehicle Johannes Kepler arrived at the International Space Station in February filled with tons of cargo, and left the Station Monday with lots of trash. Here it is just after departing.

Behind-the-scenes of Jedi – the Dark Side…en francais!
June 23, 2011 at 5:24 am | Posted in Art, Comic Books, Dark Horse | 1 CommentC’est bon! Star Wars comics fans, I’ve discovered two behind the scenes looks for two Jedi – The Dark Side covers, complete with a pretty model and never seen before images.
On his blog, French artist Stephane Roux revealed how he created Dark Horse’s Jedi – The Dark Side #2 cover. He made a preliminary drawing to show Dark House. After his proposal was accepted, Stephane enlisted the beautiful Emmmanelle:
This time, I had help from Emmanuelle, since she has a figure close to the main character to appear on the cover this time. Hey, it’s NOT always going to be funny pics, okay? Doodling and drawing sexy girls IS serious business.
He then used pencils and colors with Adobe Photoshop. While the first Jedi – The Dark Side cover featured sunny hues, Stephane wanted a “nightlike mood” for the second cover. Visit Moulinroux for pretty model pics and more, available with an English translation.
French site Beyond Comic Books shows the Jedi – The Dark Side #3 cover creation. Stephane Roux had two proposals for Dark Horse. Here’s a never seen before preliminary drawing:
Visit Beyond Comic Books for the original French and here for an English translation via Google. The final cover is stunning to say the least. Jedi – The Dark Side #2 is available now. Jedi – The Dark Side #3 hits stores in July.
